Project 250 (2005 Dolphin Grey TDI BHC)

If you end up with red I’d bet you’d keep them. Dolphin Grey with the red leather just works and the red ties in with details like the needles and the colour of the backlights and would just work imo. The blue would jar
Evening Erling,

Totally agree that a Red Leathered Interior suits Dolphin Grey. I hadn’t thought of the Red armrests in that way but get what you mean.

If the swap with Steve @Cenick goes ahead this could be the answer. Thanks for the inspiration.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

Thursday see me having a quick visit from Aris @flashzero who kindly offered me a set of Bespoke A2OC Number Plate Surrounds which he didn’t get round to fitting:

It really is what I think was missing from any A2 that I own, as I led the Group Order a few years ago (it really starts at Post #29); it just makes sense that all A2s on my driveway have a set fitted.

If you like the look of these then there are a few in the Club Shop ready for sending out pretty quickly, they are a rather cheap and elegant item which is a great way of advertising this brilliant club.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon Steve,

This is the switch fitted into 250:

The same seller has them available here although the price has increased slightly.

Mounting the Auto Light Switch into the factory trim fascia is simple enough. The Auto Light Switch has exactly the same attachment clips/fixings as your original item.

Hope this helps, anything else please do just ask.

Kind regards,

Tom

All the Mk3 auto switches - the bluetooth ones - have the rear fog tell tale correct. The Mk1 with a separate control box and the Mk2 non bluetooth have the issue of no rear fog warning but can be added. Just ensure you buy one with the correct large rectangular connection for the wiring loom and not the small one.

Does this one look good, sounds like it has the big block on the back. Don’t mind waiting for it to be delivered.

May be safer just to pay more and buy the one @2work has tried and tested!
That would my choice. Lots of members have bought from that seller without issue.

Steve,

This will fit and work but I am unable to confirm that the Fog Light indications will be correct, no reason for them not to be but as Graham said earlier, his didn’t and he had to solder in some LEDs.

I know what you have linked is cheaper than what I linked but sometimes it’s worth paying that little bit extra to ensure it’ll work correctly and comply to MOT testing standards.

You get what you pay for.

Kind regards,

Tom

Steve from what I can see the one you have listed is a MK2 that does NOT have the built in tell tale. It does indeed have the correct rear connector for the A2.

Morning all,

Another little addition to this great A2 this morning. A pair of factory Heated Mirrors. Thank you Steve @A2Steve.

Now I’ve fitted the only thing that was requested by its primary driver I can try to slip in a Double DIN Dashboard along with some toys. A few months away but it’ll soon be just as techie as the OEM A2. It might even have a heated A1 MFSW once I’ve improved my sewing skills!

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

You may remember from the previous page that I recently fitted the Blue Leatherette Handled Door Card for the Rear Electric Window retrofit. A reminder of how it looked before this morning is here.

Just been busy melting outside in the glorious weather we have in Leicestershire and have fitted the start of the Hybrid Door Cards:

For those with an eye for detail will notice that I have used the Soul pockets from manual rear windows. I didn’t want to choose the Swing pockets just yet but might come back to it at a later date because right now I’m preferring the current look.

I’m sure I could easily put the Swing handles on the the Soul Rear Electric Window Door Cards that I have but this would be at detriment to the Blue Leatherette items which are just too special to ‘play with’.

In a similar fashion as previous works on the brilliant A2, these recent works have been at the foot of further donations from @Proghound, Ian your generosity and advice/information is extraordinary Sir. Thank you so much for providing the idea and most of the parts required. Thanks also to @mjsbrabus for the supply of the much needed passengers door card and additional spares.

Kind regards,

Tom

Always nice to see inventive interiors ? It's amazing how bright the Swing looks against the Soul isn't it, although it's a much darker grey when you look at a piece in isolation.

When my former Cobalt TDI had a combination interior, I'd also kept the Soul manual rear window door pockets. I sourced some blanking grommets online to fill the holes under the humps, I don't remember the size but they were only a couple of quid.

Hi Ian,

Fully agree, the Swing handles look quite striking against Soul fabric. They also look better with the aluminium clip item opposed to the colour matched clip item.

I still might go for the Swing pockets just not too sure yet. I’ve already been to Screwfix to ensure I have enough bolts and washers should I change my mind.

I guess it will remain as it is and will depend on what colour Bose speaker grills I might find one day when I have the courage to install such a system.

Thanks again for the idea and parts. 250 is so much better for it as the Blue handles we’re not to my liking in this particular A2.

Kind regards,

Tom

A great combination Tom, and one that brightens up the interior with its subtle contrast. A thumbs up from me (not that my opinion counts, yours is the most important).

Thank you Darren,

As the Rear Electric Window retrofit was the only request from the other driver at home; I had to get it finished off nicely and do something to remove the Blue handled door cards.

It’s amazing what can be achieved in an hour with a Dremel and some kitchen cabinet bolts, followed by another hour moving all the looms from each door card to another along with fitting them.

Very happy with the results which will hopefully receive the thumbs up from everyone at 2Work Towers.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

This morning I have just collected a Soul DD Dashboard which is in fantastic condition. This will be the seed of many more retrofits in this glorious budget spec A2:

Time isn’t on my side here as I have set myself the goal of having everything you see fitted in Project OEM; replicated in this one before the September Club Camping Meet. Not too sure I’ll have any of this done as this A2 is in constant use but I will try.

As you can imagine, not everyone here sees these time consuming installs as a priority!

Once the retrofits are complete it will be complemented by a MSFW which is sat aside ready for installation.

It’ll either be a FBMFSW (without paddles):

Or the round version that currently resides in OEM:

I’m currently leaning towards the round MFSW as it just looks so nice.

Kind regards,

Tom

Love the flat bottom steering wheel, I may upgrade one day but for now I'm happy with the tt three spoke I have. Have to say those steering wheels look awesome with or without the flat bottom.
