Project Annie - Making an A2 Sicily Proof

My little Annie had her - what could turn out to be last one in the UK - service yesterday. The issue with the aircon has been resolved, so ice cold air being blown out of the vents again - that is when she doesn't go into tropical mode. A fix for the latter might be the next thing on my list. Apart from the noisy starter engine and corroded brake discs, and the recommendation that the cam belt and brake fluid are due next year, all is good again. They changed the bushes on the front anti-roll bar and installed new bumpstops for the rear suspension - my God, what a difference. No more clunky sound coming from the front of the car.

I was a bit disappointed that they didn't pick up the colour DIS. Even when talking about it, they didn't seem to be impressed...

On another note, the town of Gangi where my wife and I plan on going to, has been ravaged by fires. The town itself was spared, but the surrounding countryside has suffered tremendously. No rain since June, a very hot July and strong scirocco winds, combined with criminals - I don't have another word for them - setting bushes alight, have caused so much destruction. Animals burned alive, the ones that have survived in desperate need of food and water, farmers having lost their whole harvest for this year.

Very sad indeed...

Another eyesore gone today. Sorry for my sexy leg in the photos :)

Sorry for the lack of updates, but life has been quite hectic. My uncle in Belgium passed away, so my focus hasn't really been on the A2. That being said, during my latest visit to Belgium I finally got hold of the heated mirrors which my father had kept for me since January. These have now been fitted and seem to be working (although they were a bit hesitant at first, maybe due to some corrosion on the cables. As many of you who have done this retrofit upgrade know, it was nice to see how a German factory worker tucked the cable nicely away so 17 years ago only for me to make them re-emerge and finally be used for their true purpose.

This retrofit also means that my original non-heated mirrors will be up for sale later today. Or would you guys recommend that I hold on to them, just in case? Also, there is not really much sense in putting any picture up, as the new ones look identical to the old ones.

Two things came up yesterday:

- It took incredibly long for any hot air to come out of the vents (about 10 minutes). My climate unit has never been fast in 'Auto' mode, would always take a few minutes before it would actually start working. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone else have ever had this issue?

- After driving for about 15 minutes, the glow plug light on the cluster started flashing. I read the code on the colour DIS and got

16955/P0571/001393 - Brake Light Switch (F): Implausible Signal

So I did a quick search on here and on the Ross Tech website. Indeed, none of the brake lights are working, which is a bit scary as you are driving around in town. So tomorrow morning going to check the usual suspects: light bulbs and fuse, but I fear I will need a new brake light switch (or at least I hope that this will solve the issue). Does anyone have the correct part number for the brake switch?

Happy weekend to all of you!

As a temporary I’d until it arrives, remove it and push the actuator in and out 20 or 30 times then re fit. You’ll likely find this solves the issue at least temporarily. On my gray car that temporary fix worked for 18 months. So long that I couldn’t remember where I’d put the replacement switch I’d procured from @CreweAudi !!

Ive had a new switch sitting unused in the glove compartment for 5 or 6 years after I did the above. The old one has just stayed working since!

Followed your advice and all seems to be back working again. I will order the part just in case, but fingers crossed I won't be needing it any time soon :)

Another update: Tropical Mode (heater flaps stuck) returned and I finally had enough. I ordered a new motor and will hopefully be able to install it myself.
