Information Project JRV

Well Project JRV is currently at WOM being given a thorough going over mechanically by Marcus. One thing that we did discover is that the door check strap must have failed at some point in the cars' life as it has a torn top hinge on the driver's door. So, a bit of judicious aluminium welding will be required.

Once that's been sorted he's booked in for a thorough going over the paintwork which is okay from a distance, but distinctly showing it's mileage from close up - plenty of motorway rash on the Votex splitter at the front, plus the usual grazes around the corners.

Finally, having had a good chat with Tom about options last night unfortunately the idea about Double-Din and RNS-E had to be blown out as its not got Climate Control and means that a whole shebang of work would need to be done to get that up and running. But I'm thinking the BOSE might still be going in. I'll get the exterior up to scratch first, and the oily bits. :)

JRV found a friend today

Cheers

Rob

I fitted a double din dash to an A 2 with manual heater controls. I believe it to be the only one in existence
I have the photos if you d cid to go this route
Cheers. Paul

Yeah, Tom mentioned that. Am I right you created some extra cogs to work the blower controls... It's a consideration, but I'll see how the servicing goes first.

Basically the fascia panel for the heater controls needs rounding on the bottom two corners to suit the dash
then the mounting lugs for the controls are removed with a hack saw, and new mounts 3D printed / fabricated from PCB board (little L shape out of PCB for the top mounts and lower mounts are 3D printed)
The mechanical cables are slightly short due to the extra distance they need to reach the controls when they are mounted lower in the dash, there is loads of connect area on the cable end to the controls, but not enough to allow the cable connectors to lock in place, so a small cable tie is used to lock the cable in to the controls.
It took a few hours to work it all out, but I could do it again in under an hour.

Like I said if you go down this route then I can provide the necessary parts and photos to make this conversion pain free.
Mine as been in two different A2's for over 12 months now (only I could fit 2Din dash then change A2's and swap both dashes over, now that was a long day with both A2's in a state not seen since they were built, Tom was on the passenger side, me on the drivers side, he stated the quickest that he as ever seen two dashes swapped)

Cheers,
Paul

Quick update - wheels now found, will update once I have fitted tyres and fitted to car... This means the TT rims that are currently on the car will be available very soon.

Today's update - two essential parts now on their way to me from deepest Wales...

... and tomorrow I go to pick up the wheels I've been promising... no pics yet, but they're worth it :)

PS - TT Rims still for sale.

Still interested in the TT wheels Jeremy :)

Thanks for the visit over the weekend Keith - hope the Votex fitting went okay and that the other alloys look good.

The TT wheels are still available folks.

Progress this week. JRV went for an MOT yesterday and apart from a slightly loose headlight bolt, all was good apart from a dodgy ABS loom which has been mullered by a previous owner. Looking for a replacement quickly, so if anybody in the midlands, or near to WOM has one I'd appreciate the help here.

Well thanks to Marcus at WOM managing to fix the ABS sensor wiring which I dug out of the spares car JRV finally has an MOT. I also replaced the wing mirrors with Ebony Black ones, I'm also working on removing the centre vent from the bonnet to replace with black as well.

Hopefully all is going well to debut the car at Stanford Hall this weekend, but even then it will definitely be a Work In Progress :)
