Project Letty – AMF 1.4TDI Weight reduction, balance improvement/simplification.

Very disappointing response from the three tire import companies that together have five of the tires listed above.
I have sent them a mail asking for the weight of the tires they are selling.
Not one single answer. When I call them I only get bounced back and forth and then bip-bip-bip-bip...... very impressive

Do anyone have an idea where I can find weight figures?

Brilliant @spike ?

134 pages of interesting reading though looks from the drawings that adaptation could be complex...
Brembo is a brand I would use with pride. Any idea what one will have to pay for the 2 piston models ?

For my use I guess P/N XA8.U2.41 which are for D 278mm and W18 disks and 15mm pads so since I will try 278/12 drilled compact disks first, I will in case shim pads 3mm.

A little scared though of the 5000km maintenance requirements for these callipers (that's a good moths driving ? )
Those I have designed until now are in the area of 1.05 kg so I probably to conservative wrt safety factor....

So, getting inspired to make it lighter by this topic, I thought "let's do something about the drivers seat".
On the national market of used goods I came across this "Cobra Suzuka" racing seat.

6.4 kg!
Went to the seller, kept my distance and loaded in a perfect, not teared or abused but very covered in dust driver seat.......

How disappointed I was when I discovered after cleaning and took a seat in it.
I came to the conclusion that thanx to Covid my butt became so big it now was stuck in the seat, and I almost had to roll over to get out of it......

My boys wil use the seat now in front of the Playstation!

Conclusion, weight saver; a racing seat..... Please remove big *ss driver. ?

When cleaning carbon deposits out of the EGR valve it was noticed that there was a thin "flawn" at the top of the taper, between the two different diameteres. when looking at it with a microscope it is very visual that there are cracks all around and that some pieces are missing. These pieces will end up in the combustion chamber and can seize between piston and bore or can be squeezed between a valve and the valve seat.

An edge like the one on the pictures will also reduce flow. I have checked four EGR valves and they are as bad.

Then I have 3x reasons for doing a trim job and smooth that edge to reduce risk of engine damage and improve flow.

This is one of the reason that I machined out the very first egr. I machine a smooth taper into the bore so that the airflow is smooth with no sharp transitions from one bore to the another bore size
VAG mix and match parts from the parts bin and as such things like air flow are not necessarily always optimal

Hi Paul,
Good to hear that this was well known already ?
Must say that I was a bit surprised that all four EGR's that I checked was exactly the same...

I have noticed your brilliant EGR modification service and it is fully possible that I will add that service to what we already have agreed ?
Shipping to UK and back trough customs is not clear since brexit, and customs do not replay to my questions due to covid....
Cheers

If you want a machined out egr it may be cheaper for me to buy one in the uk from a scrap yard and machine it and send it to you rather than shipping yours to the uk
