Evening all,

Just thought I’d add a quick picture from the drivers seat:

E2C00530-B290-4191-B56E-F05E69649C93.jpeg

From this single image you can see quite a lot really.

1. Most obvious is the MFSW
2. Just as obvious is the RNS-E PU with custom firmware sowing album art
3. Also fairly obvious is Colour DIS
4. DD Climate unit with heated seat
5. 6 speed conversion (well the gear knob badge at least)
6. TT Pedals and matching bespoke footrest
7. The eagle eyed should be able to make out the auto headlight switch.
8. Look harder and you'll make out the later style key fob
9. Bose grills

If I look slightly left I get this view:

980B93EC-6663-469C-91E7-C9D272B552F5.jpeg

In this image you can see the following.

1. Automatic anti dazzle mirror mirror with compass
2. My latest RNS-E functionality which shows Rear PDC. I’m really happy with the OPS Page displayed when reverse is selected. Surely a first for an A2?
3. For the eagle eyed viewers you should be able to make out Cruise Control

Kind regards,

Tom

Very impressive set of upgrades and stuff. I might have missed if it has been mentioned, but the software work in the multimedia display unit is unbelievable. Is it all done inside the vag unit or in an external unit, I see mention of an aurdino?
Btw, is heated wheel yet implemented, if not, a future challenge?

Morning,

The RNS-E is running custom firmware which is available here. There are, to my knowledge quite a lot of members running the EU Beta Firmware (FW280v2). There is a minimal charge of £15 to enable all of its features which include maps data on SD Card. This cost is cheaper than an eBay DVD with the latest maps on which does not have 7 digit postcode and speed camera database. This £15 charge is really worth it. Have a read on the link above or scan through the last few pages if this thread to see what it can do.

To get the OPS page displayed you must be running this custom firmware and have something to push the correct traffic from the cars electrics to the RNS-E. Colour DIS may well be capable of this one day but for now I have used an Arduino UNO with a CAN BUS Shield and a K-Line interface. There are instructions on how to build the Arduino on the same link above. Just click on the release notes and all the necessary information is on there.

The Sketch to make the Arduino work are also freely available on the same link.

The Arduino simply connects directly to my RNS-E Harness and work brilliantly. The Arduino will also provide the correct messages to supply the RFSL and V-Signal should you not have a 193B or Seat Exeo head unit (ie 193G that lacks the internal hardware). I’m by no means an expert about this, I’m just a user who has had quite a lot of assistance along the way from Stuart (the amazingly helpful guy who releases the custom firmware and runs the linked website).

I’m here to help if you’re trying to achieve a similar/same set up. I might be able to get Stuart to build the Arduino for you and get it sent to you. That said you’re probably better off contacting him direct via the ‘Contact Us’ button on the linked website. He responds very quickly and is really very helpful.

Hope this answers your questions if not ask away as I’m more than happy to help out.

Regards heated steering wheel. I have considered this and have been searching for the button to activate the heat pad. This is the only heated buttons I’ve found so far but they are not the correct shape buttons to place in my steering wheel:

70084667-166F-4F03-B59C-85B046FC6AF6.jpeg

If I could find a heated steering wheel for the A1/3/4/5/6 etcetera then I would be more than happy to have a play so see what is possible. I’m sure such buttons exist but I’ve just not found them yet but they are needed in this shape to integrate into my steering wheel:

A260D8A0-E353-428D-81BE-1972687671F1.jpeg

You’ll see the fake button circled in red above. This can be removed and swapped with a heated button. It’s the PCB below it that deals with the power is just as important to locate.

From what I have seen online, it looks like the heated steering wheels have an additional plug that plugs into the slip ring. I’m confident to say that the A2 slip ring doesn’t have enough pins to allow for this. Until I find the correct buttons I am unable to go any further with this venture. If/when I do find them I’m sure this will be something that between my need to medal in these things and Tom @timmus expert knowledge that this will work out. If the donor heated wheel is not compatible with my setup (airbag) I am more than happy to remove the heat pad from said donor wheel and transplant it into my spare wheel. This spare wheel will probably be recoloured to Jive soon.

If anyone out there knows of the correct shapes buttons (with Mode button) then please do speak up. A link to your findings would also be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon All,

As promise recently after @A2Steve rightly pointed out that there is a lack of project threads being published whilst we know there is probably quite a lot going on with our Aluminium Friends, as some of us find ourselves having a little more time on our hands. I’m certainly one of the people with a bit more time on my hands so have been working on my latest A2 to make it even more enjoyable when I get back on the road and return to work.

It was purchased in March as my old trusty stead, Ebony Black 1.4 Petrol @256k miles gave up on the way home in February. Quite devastated as I (mainly @timmus) fitted pretty much everything possible to it to make my 122 miles commute every weekday more refined and pleasurable. More annoyingly I hadn’t taken any pictures of all the work that had been done along with not producing a write up on it either. Too late now as it sits on my drive way stripped of all the parts and looms I needed along with what has been sold via PM etcetera. There is nothing to take a picture of now.

So my latest A2 is a 1.4 TDI (AMF 75) in Azure Blue with Jive interior. A truly stunning combination which has quickly grown on me, normally only a Black Audi sits on my drive. It came modestly equipped with OSS, Bose, Jive Double DIN Dashboard, Heated Twist Leather Sport Seats, Rear Electric Windows, Winter Pack, and had in the back of the car ready to be fitted a complete Twist False Floor kit.

I became aware of this A2 after 2 failed attempts of obtaining a TDI due to Trade Sellers not honouring their word of waiting for me to view with cash in my hand, so I thought I’d try listing a desperate thread here on the Forum, I was saved by @A2Steve who pointed me in the direction of @Jellybean, Rob thank you so much for allowing me this excellent A2. It is running great and has been a joy to drive, not that its getting many miles right now though. Here are the pictures that I was sent which got my off the sofa, gather the family up and made a quick dash to Gloucestershire to view the A2. A 200 mile round trip which turned out to be so so worth it:

You can see that in the pictures that it does look very nice, it didn’t come with those 17” wheels, it was sat on Standard 16” SE wheels with no centre caps which were quickly swapped to 15” Pepperpots wearing Dunlop BluResponse.

Having only test driven TDIs before, I had not had time to enjoy these great engines, although I was worried that it was running a little rough it pulled beutifully, suffice to say I enjoyed every minute of the 100 mile return journey home.

I have loads to add along with pictures which I will continue to get to you over the weekend. This is just the start of a rather long thread as this amazing A2 has been given some proper lockdown refinements.

Stay safe everyone.

Kind regards,

Tom
Hi Tom,
Now I like the look of that combo.
Hopefully this time next year there will be a twin on the drive in Blackpool.

Stan.

Afternoon Stan,

Should you have any questions along the way during this ‘Twin Quest’ please do just ask. I’m more than happy to answer anything about what I have personally done to this splendid A2 these last 12 months.

Thanks Tom for your comprehensive reply, and offer to support. Unfortunately it is not for me, I have single DIN in all three A2s. Nevertheless, I am Impressed :) ?.

Afternoon again,

No problems at all. I was luck to have the Double DIN Dashboard from factory already in my A2. I’m happy to fit one but finding a matching Jive coloured item would have been difficult to locate.

I agree that it is impressive what has been achieved in regards the RNS-E. Cannot take any credit at all personally, I’m just the end user who kept bothering someone to see what was possible. Obviously all worked out nicely though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

No pictures of this but whilst my A2 was in Tom presence he also added the required harness to attach the cars electrics to the headlamp washer bottle I fitted last year.

Which pump did you go for? just putting my bits together.

Admirable work with it all!

Thanks, have everything except correct pump - pumps so trying to find them.
Cheers again Tom
Evening,

Your windscreen washer pump should fit the larger bottle for the windscreen. Just swap them over when the time comes.

As for the headlamp washer pump, I couldn’t say if this item is any good but it’s under £20 so might be worth a go.

Have you tried @CreweAudi. I’m unable to get the part number as mine is tucked away above the wheel arch liner but hopefully someone will be along shortly who has access to the part numbers.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Managed to find a spare 10 minutes to rectify an issue I’ve had for a couple of months now.

I thought I had everything under control for when the boys get in the back of my A2. They are well briefed and rehearsed in the rituals of banging feet clean to avoid muddy foot prints on the carpets and backs of seats.

They have been told to only get into the rear of the A2 from ‘their’ side to avoid not climbing through to the other side and potentially scuffing the gorgeous Twist Rear Cup Holder.

All was going really well until I realised where I failed as a father and an A2 enthusiast, I never said ‘don’t sit there and pick at the window switches'.

Here’s what’s been bugging me for a while now:

After hunting around I managed to recently purchased these from a well known auction website:

The rear windows switches now look so much better:

Boys now banished from OEM. If they desire an A2 fix they can go in Project 250.

Tom

Evening all,

Another purchase was made last night. It’s an item that I didn’t really need but always envious of the one I see hanging up at WOM Automotive @chumsofmanutd when I visit them:

It’s been in a shed for a few years and I really hope it cleans up well. I’ll no doubt just hang it up on the wall in my new garage (once I’ve built it) with a spare bonnet in it.

Ha! I wondered who on here was going to buy that!

Evening David,

I had to when I see it. I put in a cheeky offer and accepted the counter offer.

This item came up early on from a random A2 search whist I was looking for nothing specific. I was shocked it was still available as guess it’s a rather rare item. I believe they are available new but are double what the initial price was on eBay.

Although it’s not an item I needed, I really didn’t mind buying it for the cost of a tank (34L) of Shell V-Power. This last year I have saved plenty from only doing some 9k miles opposed to my usual 24k-27k miles.

Plus I’m starting to think the retrofitting of OEM+ items is drawing to the end of my journey now. The wife better keep an eye on her A2 (250) before it becomes the next OEM+ project.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

My new bonnet cover arrived on Monday and only just took it out front for a quick fitting:

C8BEA7AE-8A12-4CED-98EF-839F1693D76B.jpeg

Very happy with my purchase which will be stored under the false floor for that odd occasion when the bonnet is removed away from home.

Moving back into the interior, for perfect symmetry I have fitted/placed a second Twist Space Floor Box. This means the boys really aren’t allowed in here anymore.

Should have my spare Space Floor Boxes up for grabs soon enough.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,
It’s cleaned up alright then,
nice addition ?

Hi Keith,

Yes it cleaned up ok. There are a few marks on it but that doesn’t bother me as I will utilise it for exactly what it was designed to do.

I was going to just get a spare bonnet and have this on the wall in the garage but I think that would just be a waste. Best thing is to use it the way Audi intended.

I was just astonished to find that there are a whole range of 8Z0- coded 4-spoke steering wheels listed on the C5 A6 and C5 Allroad 7zap diagrams that are heated (with multifunction buttons) ; seemingly the heating pads are switched on with the heated seats. None of these are listed on the A2 7zap diagrams - but clearly they must have been considered during gestation given the common part number. I was expecting the Allroad diagram to be 4Z and 4B codes for the steering wheels only. They're obviously less pretty than the wheel you've got above, but may be another way to get a heated rim?
