Morning everyone,
I know I’ve been quiet on the this thread the last few weeks. Main reason is that Project OEM has been in constant use commuting from Coalville to Elgin. The route I took is just over 500 miles each way with a 12 mile daily commute whilst up there.
The A2 has clocked up 3200 miles in 3 weeks and not once missed a beat. I am so happy as it’s the greatest mileage achieved since the purchase. Some of you will notice that my previous A2 died at the very end of February and this amazing A2 was purchased very early in March. Only a couple of weeks later I found myself working from home and had only been used for commuting to Lincoln for 3 weeks before the lockdown.
During the recent high mileage commute the best economy I achieved was 73mpg, which is just amazing. That was with the cruise control set to the road speed limit. This glorious A2 has the smaller sized fuel tank but easily got from Coalville to Elgin without a refill. This mpg was with Shell V Power. When I refuelled with any other expensive diesel from Esso and BP the best I could achieve was 68mpg. Now I know that there are so many more variables like ambient temperature and road condition (dry/damp/wet) that played a part in this but for me I am going to stick with Shell. Mainly as I pass 3 Shell Services during my normal commute.
I have not used the Fuelly App, just the factory DIS for this information. I know that there are inaccuracies in this system but I know how I always drive and what I was achieving on my normal commute. I also think my tyre choice to clad my Pepperpots might also be throwing these figures out, the circumference is probably different than what the ECU/Cluster is using for calculation.
The rev counter sits at 2500rpm when I’m sat at 70mph and understand that it should be sat at 2600rpm so guess that I’m actually cruising (safely) slower than is displayed.
The interior improvements conducted over the lockdown were fully used/observed during the constant 8.5 hours each way on the commute. It was an absolute pleasure to sit in my aluminium cabin for such a long time. Checking the beautiful rear view mirrow with the digital compass and not seeing sagging headlining fabric on the rear was putting a smile on my face for miles.
The 2019 navigation disc in the stunning RNS-E PU was actually better than google maps on my iPhone XR. Google maps, on my first commute was showing off how intelligent it was by trying to save me minutes by using the odd B Road which turned out to be a total waste of time. After that I turned off google maps and only used the Audi Navigation System, very impressed how good it was with a recent disc inside it.
Throughout the last 3 weeks I have driven frugally at the speed limit but every now and then, I put my foot down. I am just amazed at how quick and responsive the 3 pot engine is. I have had Paul
@depronman tend to a couple of things for me which has changed the way the feels when I request for a quick overtake etcetera. Thank you Paul.
More pictures will be added to the thread next week after a collect an item I have had in the painters during my work way up North.
Kind regards,
Tom
