Regarding Et values; Et42 is "only" 4mm off from the standard et38 value........for me, personally, reason to go for drilling, because I kept close to this standard set up value.
It's all down to personal preference I guess.
By the way, good input on this Club, I don't like it...... I love it!

Here you go Tom, this is updated based on a 7x16 wheel instead.

The orange is the maximum sized wheel I’ve managed to fit on a lowered A2. These were the ones on black beauty with a 60mm drop.

The green would be yours with 15mm adapters and 195/50/16 tyres. You will have no issues whatsoever with the inner arch, but if you were to have 4 adults and luggage you may get some contact on the rear plastic liner of the arch over heavy bumps.

I personally think they will be fine and will fill the arches very nicely but it’s not my bank balance paying for it.
Thank you Steve,

I am right now sitting down to check out the Will They Fit website I noticed you used earlier, to add my measurements and see the verdict.

True gentleman, thanks again for doing this for me. It looks like 15mm adapters will be the way forward unless I do find somewhere that isn’t wanting £40 per wheel for drilling. If I did get them drilled I just know in time I’d be looking for spacers anyway. Shame to add the weight to these super light wheels but the look is just as important to me.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening Menno,

After looking at the cost for drilling verses the cost of adapters, the adapters are winning so far. If I change my mind about the wheels further down the road then I can sell them as original wheels that haven’t been tampered with. I can’t see this happening as I do think they are stunning.

I’m still enquiring other engineering companies about drilling as I completely understand that adding weight to light wheels is just bonkers. It’s still an option.

Until I have the wheels here, had tyres added to them and the Votex painted/fitted I don’t think I’ll be able to make the decision. If the wheels look ok sat on the hub then I’ll possibly go for drilling.

It’ll all come down to cost once I’m ready to go, which might be a while to find ‘spare’ funds. Home renovations still on going here which takes up most of my time and ALL of my my money.

Thanks for your input as it’s been so useful, you might even find me making my own jig and drilling them myself.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

After recently reshaping this fascia I’ve just been outside to code the 193G RNS-E for John before it’s dispatched. Thought I’d give a different splash screen a go:

Another member sent me this a couple of weeks ago to try. I have accidentally deleted the PM so cannot confirm who sent it. Possible @Seb_Gurkyh.

It looks brilliant. I’ll leave it on this head unit for @johnyfartbox along with instructions to change it if he wants.

Great work.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Just remembered that Graham @audifan lent me his glorious A2 recently. Here it is with the wheels that I want to fit onto mine once I get the Votex kit painted and fitted:

I could have spent a bit longer manipulating than the 2 minutes moments ago but I'm sure you get the idea, not quite as stunning as a set of 17" wheels but bigger than Pepperpots whilst maintaining light weight and ride comfort. I do really like the look.

Just as well really as I have already purchased a set!

Thank you to all of you who recently joined in with the debate on these wheels. Steve @A2Steve, your quick and reassuring work showing me that they will fit ok made this decision easier. I must also thank Paul @greywolfhound and Erling @Erlingtheelder for the pictures and information regards adapters. How can I do a small round of thanks without mentioning Menno @Menno for all the support in the background via PM about absolutely everything about these wheels and offering guidance about re-drilling them.

Input and advice from other members is what this friendly forum is all about. Legendary!

Hopefully I can get the wheels refurbished and looking as great as Ian's @ICowie do in his recent post.

Kind regards,

Tom

As you’ll see there is a slight mark on the fact of the last wheel. It may need a refurb to look it’s best. Might as well get all 4 done though.

The centre caps aren’t brilliant and have been taken apart before for DIY painting. Might have to see what I can do with them or just replace them in time.

Can’t wait to get these fitted, which will be at the same time as the Votex being fitted for a dramatic change.

Kind regards,

Tom

Well aren’t they lovely! That will look an absolute knock on when it’s all done Tom ?

Thank you Menno,

Your assistance has been totally awesome throughout my venture on this.

I am very happy. Obviously be even more happier once I have them fitted. Picture will come but not just yet.

Kind regards,

Tom

This is going to look fantastic!

I take my hat off to you for going for it despite the challenges.

Evening all,

So this evening I’ve been playing with the Splash Screen again.

I don’t think I’m quite there yet for a final solution but think I’m close. What I want is a generic classy startup screen thats in harmony with both the RNSE and the A2. The one thing that’s always bugged me was that the other factory head units would display Bose whereas the RNSE doesn’t. Adding the Bose logo was high on my list of additions.

Here’s the latest manipulation:

Screen Shot 2021-02-09 at 22.15.50.png

This is what it looks like in the car:

The iPhone camera doesn’t make it look that good at all really. I’ll try to get another image in the morning once there is better lighting.

No doubt I’m breaking some kind of copyright rules here but hopefully I’ll not have anyone knocking on the door for displaying such logos on an ageing technology head unit.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

Had a delivery moments ago:

These are the A3 items mentioned by Duncan @[email protected]. They are slightly shorter in length but so much better at opening the tailgate with the Votex style spoiler.

Very happy with the results and price.

They of course have been fitted, takes seconds. Swapping them one at a time with the tailgate held by only 1 and your head worked fine.

There is no banging as it reaches the top. It is such a smooth action.

Kind regards,

Tom

Happy to hear, Tom! I swapped the a3 struts to my wife's A2, as I wanted to try the passat 3B6 struts. They com in alu and are again a bit stronger. 500N vs 420N.

If need be, that could be your choice once you've fitted the VOTEX kit.

Stay safe,
Duncan

Glad you’re happy with them Tom, mine will arrive in a couple of weeks!

It seems I’ve saved a king’s ransom by not going for the OE ones after all.

Sorry. Not to thread jump. Are these the struts you ordered?

I smashed my face off the edge of the tailgate the other day and my memory isn’t what it was...

Evening,

Yes this looks to be the same model number (8413HV) that I fitted yesterday.

Head meeting tailgate is annoying and painful.

Afternoon all,

Tomorrow is OEMs ‘ownership’ birthday. Yes 1 year ago tomorrow I collected this great commuter from Bob @Jellybean in Gloucestershire. It’s come a long way since then thanks to having a little more time on my hands.

I treated it to a little something which just looks and feels brilliant. Not quite finished it all off but hopefully be able to show you my progress in the morning.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

No recent pictures as these are all contained within this thread anyway.

This day 12 months ago I collected this A2 from Bob @Jellybean after my Ebony Black Commuter died very late February 2020.

As Im not adding updated pictures I thought I'd just sum up whats happened since the said purchase.

You'll probably remember from the initial few posts in this thread that it came modestly kitted out with the following:

Winter pack
Bose
Jive DD Dashboard with a Symphony unit
Twist heated leather seats
Rear electric windows
BSS

It also has a Twist false floor kit which had to be installed which was done within a day or 2.

I had a few nice items to put into this glorious A2 that were donated by its predecessor (dead commuter), these we're:

Working OSS
RNS-E Mk1
Platinum auto dimming mirror
TT pedals
Pepperpots
Later style washer jets and wiper arm
Verdestein spare wheel
AF CCCU
Auto (bluetooth) head light switch
Cruise control
Club number plate surrounds

The things that have been added post the first weekend of swapping things over are:

Reupholstered headlining
SideGuard
12v boot socket
LED interior light including second luggage space light
Working OSS
Twist rear cup holder
2 Twist space floor boxes
1x RNS-E 193G and 2x RNS-E 193B with custom firmware that shows OPS/PDC page when revise is selected plus all the other amazing features available.
Twist auto dimming mirror with compass
Twin rear fog lights
Headlamp washer bumper washer bottle
Repaired clock adjustment needle/puller
Factory rubber mats to protect the Twist carpets
Rear PDC but still yet to add the sensors, will be plug and play now though
Fully service along with all belts and water pump
Recharged the air conditioning system
Factory roof bars
Painted a few things with Volico Twist paint
MYP 6 speed gear box and 6 speed badge on gear stick
Vote style spoiler
New TT pedals along with the bespoke footrest
A few Depronman enhancements
Audi Bluetooth module
Audi Media Interface module
Later style key fobs
A Revision OSS motor
'Auto' opening tailgate (as per Bobs recent findings)

Things that are waiting to be finalised:

Votex painted and fitted
Headlamp washer painted and fitted
PDC sensors added
MFSW
Colour DIS
A6 C5 armrest
A8 D2 wheels powder coated

No doubt I've missed a few things off.

I think you'll agree that its come along way since collection 12 months ago.

I couldn't have managed to have all this work completed without a few parts from Steve @A2Steve, Tom @timmus for his soldering skills, David @devans for teasing me with his BT/AMI additions, Paul @depronman for his rain dance services, Andy @Clackers for a few parts, Grahan @audifan for mentioning the Volico paint (and many other things) and everyone else for all the advice on the forum and this thread. Team effort everyone, thanks!

Now I have returned to work the commute is so much more pleasurable in this A2.

Kind regards,

Tom
