Thank you for your kind words, it’s always nice to hear that what you’ve been up to is of interest to others. I do hope that other have a go at some of what I’ve been up to. I’m always here to answer any questions if anyone gets stuck etcetera.

I’ll keep the thread going as this is a keeper for me.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Tom
Keep going for sure Tom
Car is a cracker as I’ve said before and love oem+
so my evening reading is complete!!!!

Afternoon all,

Since making my cabin look and feel a little better than it already was there was just one thing that really bugged me. The climate control unit has, since ownership, never kept me cool on a warm day.

After multiple scans whilst working through the Climate Control Units buttons I managed to clear all the flap faults. Obviously it was quite nice to not have any faults thrown up on VCDS but still no cold air.

I do have one of the DIY EZ Chill kits but know they are inferior to using the correct equipment. I did use the trigger gun adapter to test if the system had pressure, which it did so thought that might just be a good indication that there was no leaks.

A very good friend and neighbour has the correct equipment which he uses for domestic aircon units and for heat pump installations etcetera. After a coffee this morning he set up his apparatus and drained what pressure and r134a refrigerant that remained in the system.

Then he added 500g of r134a and I finally had cold air. Absolutely over the moon that I can now be comfortable in my glorious A2 cabin.

Here’s a shot of my BBQ Thermometer (probably not the best tool but it works) wedged into the centre dashboard vent after a 10 minute drive to ensure all was good:

The reading settled at 6.5°C, brilliant. A very happy person, big grins all round.

Kind regards,

Tom

Great work again, doesn't VCDS show up low pressure faults?

It didn’t but I guess I could have investigated further in the measuring blocks area to further diagnose.

All good now though and very happy.

Does anyone else have any details for further/deeper investigation for the air conditioning system with VCDS?

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon again,

I hope the weather is a little better where you are as it’s just changed here. Good for the lawn and the vegetable patch I guess.

Just to add a little something to this thread, a good month ago now I went to Chelmsford to collect a set of Genuine Audi A2 Roof Bars, thank you @AndyP.

The Roof Bars have been in the garage for the last month or so whilst I’ve had the headlining out for reupholstering, OSS swap, auto dimming rear view mirror full harness being added (which is safely tucked away for other Tom to solder in) and the SDS Microphone being added.

So an hour ago, just after the cold maiden journey with the aircon blasting out 6.5°C I went to dig my way to the back of the garage and pulled out said roof bars.

They had a little clean up as a few dozen spiders thought it a nice place to set up camp. 5 minutes later I set to fitting them to the car, very excited as these will be used quite often and thought that I would never actually own a set.

Here is a beautifully detailed Azure Blue A2 with Genuine Roof Bars fitted:

Sorry the detailing took place yesterday, not 10 minutes before this picture was taken, the sun was out and the glass and paint work looked stunning. Oh well I now know what I’ll be doing tomorrow!

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon,

A few more pictures to add which relates to the firmware that @pcbbc so kindly informed this great Forum about.

The area I’d like to draw your attention to is the bottom right hand corner of the map, there you’ll see the road speed limit icon displayed. This was not able to be displayed in the past unless you have one of the magical CAN/CAN GATE (not 100% sure of the correct name) units which I believe are no longer available.

The next picture shows you what SW version I am running along with the 2020 Navigation Disc:

Below are a few pictures of the road speed limit I mentioned above:

Afternoon again,

Just went outside to chammy off the very recent rain to grab a few shots. Nothing special as all of what has happened to this A2 has been captured throughout this thread.

I took some pictures anyway to remind myself in the future where it got to in the various stages as well as sharing them with you. The paintwork doesn’t look as good as it looked earlier, it’s just been dried off and given a quick buff with a microfibre cloth.

Here goes:

A few more of how much cleaner the interior now is. When I collected this A2 is was damp and mouldy inside and really didn’t look it’s best, just needed a thorough deep clean. I tried pretty much everything the I could get my hands on but nothing cleans better than @A2Steve ’s favourite product: Elbow Grease.

This A2 is just an absolute pleasure to drive and spend time in. Even more so now the aircon is freezing!

I have a Votex kit, Headlamp Washer Bumper and Rear PDC kit to fit yet. Not going to be wearing any of that for a while as I’m in no rush.

Kind regards,

Tom

All you need now is a 20th anniversary sticker and debadging the tailgate. Really looking great.

Stunning Tom and well worth the effort.

Thank you very much Dave,

It’s been fun so far but still not finished. After I visit Tom next week at Ian’s I should have the SideGuard fully functional along with the luggage space 12v socket working and the auto dimming rear view mirror correctly hooked up to the electrical system.

Next thing to purchase and retrofit is a Genuine Audi Bluetooth module, that should do away with the Xcarlink microphone just in front of the instrument cluster. Pictures of the install of that next weekend hopefully.

Kind regards,

Tom

Looking great Tom. I’m not sure how you could hold off fitting a votex kit if you have one there! I’d be like a kid at Christmas.

It’s so fitting that your numberplate is OEM ?

Afternoon Steve,

If I had the spare cash to get the Votex Kit painted it would have been fitted a few days after Ian @Bargepower dropped it off. Thanks to @PaulA2 for providing the said Votex at a very nice price. Project OEM will be wearing it soon enough.

If anyone has a good set up to recolour my Votex kit please do speak up and I’ll start a PM with you to arrange.

Kind regards,

Tom

And Welsh.? Full votex? You have seen my one with the full votex?

Yes I do like the pictures of your A2, it was seeing images of your A2 that proved to me that Azure Blue looks great with a Votex kit. It maybe a couple of months before I find the ‘spare’ funds to get mine recoloured though.

Kind regards,

Tom

The perfect Christmas gift for the car then? Look forward to the ongoing improvements you have and are making to the car Tom. Be careful when you have the front spoiler fitted as they need to flex a bit to fit around the lower arches that the new paint doesn't split. Would it be better to get some or all painted on the car?
