Project Pine Green 1.6

I'm at a bit of a crossroads now with this project and i've got 3 possible ways I could go with how it's going to look. I'd appreciate members opinion and may even listen to the good advice :)

Option 1 - keep the car at factory ride height and fit a set of refurbed 17 inch sport spec alloys, retain the cream leather interior.

Option 2 - convert the car into another Dune, with new shocks and springs on an increased ride height, gunmetal grey arches and lower plastics, the peperpots currently fitted with some 20mm spacers, retain the cream leather interior, imitation skid plates front and rear and some roof bars mounted front to back.

Option 3 - paint the lower black plastics gloss black, lower the car on coilovers with a set of 17 inch BBS alloys with gold centres and polished outer lip. Interior change to black sports seats (cloth) and all interior changed to black.

I'm swaying more towards option 1 and 3, which are at opposite ends of the scale.

Or any other suggestions welcome.
For me options 1 and 2 sound best. Pine green not everyone's favourite A2 colour but lends itself really well to being a Dune with the contrasting wheel arches.

For me it would be 1 all day long, if you can find a set of 'straight' 17" Sport wheels that is?

I know you like to stamp your own mark on things so maybe the wheels and centre caps painted in Bronze might look good with the Pine Green paint and still classy but a bit different to denote that the car is a bit 'tuned' shall we say!

Option 2 would be a waste of the additional power IMHO as you wouldn't really be able to use it although I agree the colour would suit the 'Safari' off road look đź‘Ť

That's a good point, it may well be too wallowy in the corners to make use of a bit more poke.

ps, I think I have a set of straight sport wheels on my current fsi breaker. I'll run them on the car for a week or so to check though before refurbing.

Or better still spin them on a wheel balancer and look at the insides.

It really is the only way to tell for sure.

My bet is one may be straight and true if you're lucky but most will be flat spotted.

They do look great though đź‘Ť

My penneth worth... Option 1 with perhaps diamond cut or polished 17" sport wheels. Not seen that yet.

Option 3 just too chavvy.

Option 1 for me Steve, pine green with sport wheels and cream interior is a classy combination. If you don't like the look of it you've not gone too far to make a change.

Whilst I can see the reason for option 1, I reckon you want to do option 3 and that would make the most of the modifications already made imo

Thanks for everyone’s input.

I’ve just taken it for it’s first drive (on private land) since fitting the AUB ecu and I think the car is determining which way I’ve got to go.

It pulls really really well. So much so that the traction control light is having fun with the 15 inch wheels.

It’s also lifting at the front end under hard acceleration, so to be able to make the best use of the extra power it’s going to need better suspension and heavier wheels. I’d also like to improve the brakes so I’ll be fitting a Fabia 288mm setup. It’s tried and tested and I know that it works.

Bilstein B6 shocks with Eibach sport springs would be the preferred choice, but the shocks alone are over ÂŁ600.

I think it’s going to have to be a set of coilovers on their highest setting.

As for wheels it will need to be some non-chavvy 17 inch alloys, probably something oem.

I fitted a gas shock and 30mm lowering springs to mine with rear anti roll bar off polo and fabia VRs front brakes . Ploy Bushed front arms too.

Was running 16” alloys with 205/45/16 tires

Car handled like a go kart with that engine in it .

Quite like these, seen them on someone's lowered black a2 and looked class. I was looking at hr 25mm lowering springs and bikstein b4s with 20mm spacers. Not sure how they'd work out.

Steve while you're at it what's the biggest discs for 15s? Mine warped again in 12 months of changing!

Option 1 Defo. Decent suspension, standard ride hight, beautifully refurbed standard wheels which are hugely strong. Massively impressed at what you have done, Steve. Pine Green with twist leather, wow!

Thanks for everyone's feedback on the way this project should go. It's certainly given me food for thought.

I’ve come to a final decision on how this one is going to look and be set up.

I’ve done a deal with @Cenick on a set of Audi A8 16inch D2 monoblocks.

These will be combined with a set of coilovers but run at their highest setting so only an overall 30mm drop and Polo 9N top mounts.

The bodywork will be left as Audi intended albeit after I’ve swapped the majority of panels for better examples I have here. The only change being that the lower plastics and rear spoiler will be painted gloss black.

The interior is going to be changed to soul black and a black double DIN dash fitted along with either an RNSe or aftermarket unit.

I’ll then be fitting a set of red leather sports seats when I can find a set, along with an Audi A8 wood steering wheel and gearknob. Audi 8P switchgear, an auto headlight setup and retrim the headlining and pillars in black suede to increase the feeling of luxury on the interior.

This should hopefully leave me with an A2 that doesn’t look overly modified, using mainly oem parts but still looks special enough to satisfy my need to be a little different.

Unlike previous projects, I’m not going to rush this one as I’ll only get bored when it’s finished and look to sell again, so will take my time building it.

Where on earth did those wheels come from, they loook really cool! Be very interested in the ride, I was just lining up H&R 25mm with B4's to replace mine, nervous they may be too firm but compared to original shocks and spring I expect its much better anyway. THis sounds like a great interior choice. Can you do a feature on the headlining, cant get enough info on doing that!? Look forward to seeing this come together.
