Project Pine Green 1.6

Where on earth did those wheels come from, they loook really cool! Be very interested in the ride, I was just lining up H&R 25mm with B4's to replace mine, nervous they may be too firm but compared to original shocks and spring I expect its much better anyway. THis sounds like a great interior choice. Can you do a feature on the headlining, cant get enough info on doing that!? Look forward to seeing this come together.
Ed, please don't buy the H&R springs. I've had them in the past and found them horrendous when compared with the Eibachs.

The Eibachs are available on Autodoc and if you wait for a deal you can get them for around £110 a set. You'd have to search for ones for the Fabia 6Y and they do 2 different sets, one for the petrol, one for the diesel.

Sound advice, cheers! are droplinks normal lenght with -25mm springs? Will follow that. Cant find the name of these wheels anywhere, they must be crazy rare, most are 8 holes not 16.

Yes, standard length drop links can be used. I've found Meyle HD to be the best.

The A8 D2 used these 16 inch monoblocks (speedline monoblock), whereas the later ones used a 17 inch. They normally don't come in a polished effect i don't think, this has been done afterwards i'm guessing with diamond cutting.

Sounds fantastic Steve. Looking forward to seeing it progress and it sounds like it’ll be an excellent blend of some of your ‘greatest hits’ all in one car 👍

They are like rocking horse poop Edd!

Maybe they will turn up something like this in green once Steve and finished with them

Thanks for everyone’s input.

I’ve just taken it for it’s first drive (on private land) since fitting the AUB ecu and I think the car is determining which way I’ve got to go.

It pulls really really well. So much so that the traction control light is having fun with the 15 inch wheels.

It’s also lifting at the front end under hard acceleration, so to be able to make the best use of the extra power it’s going to need better suspension and heavier wheels. I’d also like to improve the brakes so I’ll be fitting a Fabia 288mm setup. It’s tried and tested and I know that it works.

Bilstein B6 shocks with Eibach sport springs would be the preferred choice, but the shocks alone are over £600.

I think it’s going to have to be a set of coilovers on their highest setting.

As for wheels it will need to be some non-chavvy 17 inch alloys, probably something oem.
Sounds brilliant, what is the rpm in top gear like compared with Angry Bee?

Been unwell for the last couple of days so that’s slowed me down a bit, but got some good work done last night.

My mate did his best wicked witch of the west impression under the car to get the downpipe welded onto the factory exhaust.

We then turned our attention to the problematic gearchange. No matter how many times I did the gear cable reset procedure it just wouldn’t go far enough into 1st or reverse to avoid popping out. I’d almost given up and concluded that the gear cables must have got damaged during the engine refit. My mate showed me up though with better mechanical prowess, threw the YouTube how-it’s out the window and looked at it from a simple mechanical perspective. It turned out to be that when I’d removed the counter-weight when doing the gearbox swap I’d put it back on 2 splines to the right, so there was no chance it was ever going to line up. Counter-weight moved 2 splines over and the gear change is now back to being silky smooth and super light with its new clutch.

This morning I finished off changing over the interior from cream to black. Whilst cream works so well with pine green, it doesn’t work well with someone who spends a large portion of their time with dirty hands 😊
Just the elephant in the room to sort out now…the DD dash swap.

Great work Steve,

Really impressed with how this has come along. You must be quite happy with the outcome so far.

My fingers are crossed for the you regards the MOT. Looking forward to see this one at a social in 2023 mate.

Kind regards,

Tom

Nice work. Is the naked exhaust manifold installation the same as in the engine donor car? I am thinking on if the radiated heat energy might be a problem for the surrounding components?

Thanks Tom. Long way to go yet, but yes very happy with the way it’s gone so far.

The Polo GTi has a heat shield over the manifold. May look to see if I can adapt an FSI one I’ve got here.
