Project Pipe n Slippers

This is my latest keeper project and has left me in two minds as to what to do with Project Methuselah but it's such nice spec and I spent so long trying to find it I'd instantly regret it if I passed it on but how many cars do you actually need? ?

Anyway thanks to my pal or professional bad influence Steve (A2Steve) who gave me the nod about Pipe n Slippers being up for sale reasonably local to me I managed to convince the sellers I was the right person for the car. I did have to pay a bit more than their asking price due to the huge amount of interest the car was getting but still managed to get if for a very reasonable price considering the spec and miles. The sellers had a great sentimental attachment to the car so I agreed that should I ever sell the car the seller would get first refusal to buy it back not that I've any intention of selling the car any time soon but that's not stopped people asking for first dibs on it either ?

It's an early 2001 Tdi SE 75 on a Y plate with only 87k miles from new, 1 previous owner who bought the car brand new for a staggering £20k after ordering £7k of optional extras which included a OSS that's still in full working order, swing grey heated leather sport interior, false floor with collapsible spare wheel, Webasto heater.

It does need a few jobs doing mainly a leaking flexi on the exhaust, the seller claimed there was a slight fault with 3rd gear but at only 87k I'd like to think the gearbox will be fine and is probably just needing the cables tweaked ? The old guy is 95 years old, he gave up driving at the grand old age of 91 so it's safe to say both bumpers and all four arches need a visit to the bodyshop but the rest of the bodywork is very straight but other than that it doesn't seem a bad car at all ?

Hi Icowie,
Wow that looks really good, best of luck with the project.
Keith.

A great looking example with a nice history and low miles. What's not to like?! Look forward to the updates as you continue to put your own stamp on it.

Thanks Darren I might end up putting a 3 spoke steering wheel on and possibly a nicer set of alloys but other than that I think I'll be leaving this one pretty much stock

I thought this would be for me!

Despite selling my A2 a couple of years ago I still visit this site and look at the A2s for sale. Although my new car is objectively better in many ways it doesn't have the character that the A2 has!
