News Project S - Silver '02 plate 75 TDi

I have always been wary of multicar as when you read the small print and do the calculations they have sometimes worked out to be more expensive than separate policies. The main issue is no claims only on one vehicle. Albus is Dawn's second car with 0 no claims bonus as she still has her Daihatsu Copen on the road and is using her no claims bonus for that.

Because we've both got max no-claims (about 9 years each), but these are built up on two policies, it works out quite well for us. I was quoted ~£700 for the second A2 originally, but when adding on to the policy each one comes in at roughly £250 annually each. Okay, it's not great as we don't build up a 3rd or 4th No-Claims bonus, but it works out quite well really.

Not sure if it is of interest but we have just had a quote of £700 for Motor Trade insurance (no premises required, just a genuine element (even part time) of some kind of motor trade.

Cover is for up to £15,000 per car and your own cars are covered too.

It is not something that works for everyone, but if you have a collection of cars and buy / sell parts or the occasional car then it might be an option.

This is for two drivers (although we are waiting for confirmation of the quote and it includes one years motor trade NCB.

Might look into this, thanks Steve. Was this affected by any NCB, or where you live?

They MIGHT take ordinary NCB into account but it was my son in law that contacted them, we had one year NCB for Motor Trade cover.

It is at least looking at the option. It is very useful when buying a car that you will be driving back or taxing a car you have just bought.

He (my son) said that it covers motorbikes too (I gave up on motorbikes a few years ago but he still has one or two)

You get to add your cars to the Motor Insurer.s Database (MID) and so even number plate recognition cameras are not a problem because the car shows as covered.

Interesting. I doubt it would cover my son when he is 17?
true,

my son had a quote for his 17 year old boy who has just passed his test it was £1,400 for his TDI and that is on the condition that there is a tracker and "black box" fitted.

I will get the details tomorrow and let you know. I am assuming you mean for the motor trade policy, or do you mean my grandson's cover?

Steve B

Hi

The Grandson’s quote was from “More than”

The Motor trade quote was from a company called “Aeges”?

If you have motor trade insurance on your vehicles, won't you lose your personal no claims bonus after 2 years as that is when it expires if not used for most companies?

It depends on who you go through. Direct line honoured my no claims when I did it last time.

Failed it's MOT on a couple of minor points, rear brakes not effective enough and good old CV Boots :( Never mind, off to WOM for a quick repair, hopefully get it back next week.

Mine failed MOT just before Christmas on rear brakes and front broken coil spring. WOM did the work for me again. Now I just have a cracked windscreen to deal with (2nd in a year). Last year LV agreed to OEM glass no problem, but Autoglass have stated Tesco Insurance this time say no! Just wondering if the non OEM glass is a good fit on a car with an open sky roof or would it not make any difference? (probably a silly question!)

I honestly couldn't say, having had no personal experience of non-OEM glass. I know that A2Steve recently had his done, and insisted on OEM glass. I would perhaps check with AutoGlass if there is an option to "Upgrade" to the OEM one, with Tesco paying for non-oem, you pay the difference?

I've had 2 different non OEM windscreens. No issues. Guardian 1st and Fy (Ty? something like that.) on now. The only thing with the current one is the position of the maker's text, on the driver's side.

I have had several non-oem screens fitted all without issue as Chris says.

When you are paying for it yourself the extra for OEM doesn't seem to be value for money (unless your car is totally OEM maybe?

My local windscreen fitter charges £150 or less and does an amazing job. It always fascinates me the way he uses a special gadget and some special wire to safely remove the old glass VERY easily.
