[Purchasing a vehicle in Germany] - Escrow Service or Other

Hi all,

I am trying to purchase a motorbike from Germany and have it shipped to Cyprus.

I have found a seller but they will not accept remote payment and they will only accept local pickup. They also do not speak English.

Is there a solution that anyone knows about? Something like a middle man?

Regards,

Think on their part it's a self protection against being scammed. I'd be wary of someone from another country wanting to buy something then working out payment.
Bank transfer and then you organise a courier to collect. Where in Germany is the bike?

Hi, the bike is in

37308 Thüringen - Heilbad Heiligenstadt

I have tried anything. I joined a forum and asked around. I offered to pay the sellers beforehand and I was accused of trying to pull off a scam for whatever reason. Very few sellers have responded positively but the examples that they presented did not interest me.

I have now found a low-mileage well-presented example. The seller will respond in simple German that I can translate but they want the deal to be done cash on collection. This means that someone has to buy it for me. I have asked a shipping company and already got quotes for the transport. I just cannot get a seller that would speak English and that would agree to a remote deal. It will cost approximately 800 EUR to get it from Germany to the port in Limassol.

Again with no personal reflection, I can understand the sellers position.
37308 is 6hrs north of me, I'm waaaay down near Basel Switzerland.
Again curiosity, what bike is it?
Are you looking with this: https://www.autoscout24.com

Most people would accept a bank transfer as even with IBAN or similar once the money is in their bank it's safe...
How about the fly to Hanover / ride back option... if its running of course!

It is a mint yamaha tr1 second generation. V-twin 1000cc, chain drive, monoshock, 1984.

I have explored the route and riding it to Cyprus would require a new rear-tire and service midway, plus a whole lot of back ache.

Thanks for the offer, you are too far!

I have offered to pay upfront no questions asked. As long as the seller would take care of the paperwork and arranged a rendez-vouz with the shipping company.

I just can't get it. I presented my linkedin profile, personal website and publications record on the forum yet some people accused me of identity theft.

This is why I am asking over here. Maybe someone knows of a company that offers this kind of service.

There is one a little closer... Munich...https://www.autoscout24.com/offers/yamaha-tr-1-5a8-gasoline-ed2e7582-4433-4a6e-a9dc-77ce0cdb8476?sort=standard&desc=0&lastSeenGuidPresent=true&cldtidx=1&position=1&search_id=cacy4afjgy&source_otp=t10&source=listpage_search-results&order_bucket=unknown

Thanks for going through the trouble. That looks like a decent first gen.

I will investigate the website that you suggested and keep in touch in case there is anything you could help out with!

I'll have a look this evening and reply via pm.

Good luck and maybe a different person could have a different view of the sale.

Nice bike and a good one for the sunny island. (ZZR1100 owner here).

I ride a diddy xv250 at the moment for city driving but I need something bigger (and troublesome) for commuting to and from the village as a daily.

There is a potential fzr1000 available locally but that's a different story. In general the twins are trouble-free, at least that is what I am thinking and also this particular model has a good resale value. However they were only massively sold in Germany and the US.

Very limited local market, again.
