Question regarding VCDS and Rosstech cables

Hi All,

I've been fiddling around with VCDS and it's quite alright, i've got the cheapo ebay cable but figure it is more worthwhile to pay a bit more to get the full fledged rosstech cable that can do both pre 2005 cars as well as newer models.

Now what i am struggling with is figuring out the cable types and which cars/models they work with, i've read there are cables which are hybrid and do both, so ideally i'd like one of these with the pre-activation.

It seems a lot more worth while to pay extra for something like that especially as I'm working on convincing Mrs. to part with Fiat 500 in favor of something less rusty Fiat.

Thus what would i need to keep an eye out for just the older version of VCDS and for what i'd want if i want it to work with both A2 and newer models in VAG group?

Gendan is an official retailer of VCDS and is the place to go if you're buying new.

The latest cables cover any VAG models and are a must have if you ever plan to get something newish (2019 onwards.)
The only drawback compared to the older cables is the 'VIN' limitation which is explained here - https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCV23.html

Thanks Spike,

I did not find it nearly as clear on ross tech website, clearly says 1996 onwards for that cable, so any HEX v2 should work fine.

Reading some other forums i've come up upon kept mentioning hybrid cables that do both or just the pre 2005 models and post 2005 models of VAG cars.

would this work?

That’s very fake

We wouldn't normally be too pleased to see links to fake cables on the forum, but this is clearly called out as fake and with a good explanation as to why (thanks @Edwrai ?). It can stay here in the interest of people learning how to spot a fake one.

Second hand look out for a HEX+CAN these have no vin limit and work with old and new

I have a HEX+CAN cable and understand it won't work with VAG models from 2019 onwards- which won't be a problem of most of us for a while yet.

Cheers Spike

Do you know why as I thought the HEX+CAN has all the protocols that the new hex v2 ones do
