Radio reception and pauses

I've been having this problem since I bought my car. I notice on FM, my concert unit often have a short pause/black out/silent and is really annoying. Traffic Programme or announcement is off so I don't know what is causing these pauses.

I drive in central London area normally and it is particularly noticable when I'm in areas with taller buildings. When I go outside and on the motorway, I don't have this problem! It is not related to particular station either. It *seems* to be related to signal strength but I often drive through tunnels and the FM radio will become weak on entrance and finally a low hiss which sounds normal. So I don't know what is giving me these random pauses! I want to see if anyone has the same problem before I make my next move. Either replace with the same unit (cheap on ebay) or get something else...

Have you tried disabling RDS, in case it's attempting to find an alternative signal for the current station?

My symphony II was crap reception too, SKF went as far as changing the rear screen under warranty without making things any better, I've either got to stop listening to Century 105.4 or put up with the lousy reception, strange the loan polo's and golf's and A3 sportback's were all fine though!
They told me to switch off the RDS too but it kept switching back on! I have tried just about every combination of switching imaginable, none of them made any difference what so ever!

I remember I tried switching RDS off and it was the same. But I'll give it a try again.

Thanks Ben!! It is the RDS. RDS is on every time I start the car. So I thought it didn't work. But I'm dead certain it is RDS causing problem. Does other head unit have this problem? I would buy something that doesn't make the pauses.
