Random faint bleeping sound

Now I know this is not much to go on ....

Some many months ago (last year?) I was noticing a random and very faint single bleeping sound as I was driving. Eventually it went away. Yesterday it came back.

I had been driving along a dual carriageways for about an hour at 60-70 and then slowdown approaching the M3 at Winchester when it started. Just a single bleep and then maybe 5 to 10 mins before another. Didn't seem to be correlating with speed or gear but maybe with decellerating. My wife was in the car and heard it as well, once I mentioned it.

With the road noise difficult to say where it was coming from. Just recently Spike set my A2 to bleep when locked and told me that the bleep is the same as the alarm bleep. It sounds just like that, and if it's at the back of the car would sound faint with the wind and road noise. But recall I had the sound before Spike set the confirmation bleep. The vehicle has a tracker fitted.

Anyone else experienced this?

It's just an idea, not necessarily the right answer, but it could be a sign of the internal battery in the alarm unit beginning to run down.

These batteries are rechargeable, but they do stop recharging after a few years, or should I say, they don't hold their charge for long. The faint, intermittent beep could be a sign of that, but I can't fin this documented anywhere.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Alan
I have just replaced the alarm siren on my car due to the problems Skipton described - see link for more details

On a similar theme, could it be the Tracker unit. I assume they have an integral battery and this could be on the way out, beeping rather like a failing smoke alarm.
By the way, it was not me who did the VagCom update at Castle Coombe - it was probably Ben or Skipton. I do however recall talking to you - and walking round to the Milltek exhaust stand.

Cheers Spike

The tracker system is not installed in the rear of the car when fitted to A2s - I won't say where it is exactly, to keep any thieving sc*mbags from having an easier time.

Suffice it to say that if you think the beeping is coming from the back, it won't be the Tracker.

Why not get someone to chauffeur you around whilst you sit in the back trying to pinpoint the beep?

Cheers,

Mike

Yes, your are right - your memory is better than mine, Spike

Thanks guys for your suggestion. I've not heard it over the last 2 journies - about 240 miles in total. Strange one this. I recall reading (I think) that the tracker alarm has it's own battery, so maybe it needs replacing. I'll give tracker a ring.
