rate your dealer

Phil, I'm going down there again this week to see what they have to say face to face, otherwise I will send in the big guns as you say.

Alan, I have also had this attitude with my Mercedes (£32k worth when new) and I felt like I had wasted every hard earned penny, Not on the car, which I love, but on every contact with their staff. I had reservations everytime it had to go in for anything at all and I'm not ashamed to say it hurts. In my experience of dealers is that they create/add more problems to my cars on their return. Thing is I am very aware of how cars work and if they did it to me, then imagine what they get away with doing their darstardly deeds to the 'simple turn key and just drive', and let the dealers rip me off when it stops types of people.

Also in this day and age especially with the (here comes those words again) credit crunch, you'd think they'd bend backwards to get a customer through the doors.

Maybe it's me but I am passionate about the cars that I carefully choose to buy, and get quite attached to these metal boxes, and find it hard just to hand it over to someone who I know couldn't careless about it, hence me doing all work needed myself.

Cheers

John Cornick Motors Yeovil
Needed to get my ARB fixed as it had slipped to one side and had heard someone else mention John Cornick in Yeovil.
They had a look and replaced the ARB and drop links for just over £200, which I thought was a pretty good deal. They originally were not going to do the ARB and when we decided it would be a better idea to update this as well they only charged me for the part and not any more for labour. They also did a VAG COM check for my EMC light and wrote the diagnostics on my bill for future reference.
Very pleased with the work done and even though they are not as swish as the dealers, no plush offices etc, I will go back there again.

Coulsdon Audi

New audi dealership opened recently. Went in today to get my cat/exhaust looked at. Technician guy really helpful and offered to clean the cat and also to upload any flashware updates for the 1.6fsi for free as still under warranty. He's told the servicing team to only book my A2 under him and will make sure to keep my A2 in tip top condition.

All I can say it is a very refreshing attitute compared to other audi dealerships I've come across and from this experience would recommend. All staff so far were really pleasant. Even had a guy transfer from the Bromley branch and said he much preferred the move.

Have my car booked in for next wednesday and will report back. May have a chat with this guy to see if they can offer deals to A2OC for us Southern lot???

Cheers,

M

Birmingham Audi

The quality of service at Birmingham Audi is poor.

They have only been open a year in thier new premises by me.

They replaced the cam belt in April and chipped the paint when putting the bonnet back on, both sides.

Just had a full service done, the seat had dirt marks on it and the service sheet said service book wasnt in car even though id given it to the service guy in the morning. He said dont worry it is in the car now, when i collected the vehicle.

When he took me out to my car they hadnt even stamped it with the service details, so he had to take the book back inside for them to do it.

They are run by Listers, they seem badly organised, I had to wait 20 minutes to be seen, even though id booked it in earlier in the week, when i arrived with the car.

CV boot clips were apparently missing, which they failed to tell me about when they mot'ed it 6 months ago. they tried to sell me 2 new boots with clips for £126 each, you can buy the clips seperately or use cable ties as suggested by mike.

Dropped it off at 8am, they asked me what time id like to collect it, told them id be picking it up 4:30pm.

They rang me 3:50pm with list of other jobs did i want doing, like my squeeking brake and faulty engine temp sensor, which i had already advised them about, and apparently back brakes are binding. Told them just the temp sensor please, they asked for an extra 1/2 hour and said i could collect 5pm i offered to go 5:30 pm to make easier for them, still wasnt ready when i got there 5:30pm

they couldnt organise a wheelnut removal without getting something wrong or damaging something.

I wont be having any further work done with them as i have no confidence in thier quality of work, organisation abilities or that they wont damage my car in the process.

fontains - bucks

Heres my experience of Fontains Audi Specialist

Initial enquiry-9/10...enthusiastic
Purchase and handover-06/10 ... laquer on door lifted & wouldnt move on price. Kept me waiting whilst it was prepped as it had initially failed MOT that morning....PREPARATION & PLANNING FELLA'S.
PDI-2/10 missed defective paintwork.
Rectification work-2/10... no help
Dealer keeping me up to date with work-0/10
Dealer making an effort to smooth over problem -5... no effort at all.

Then my engine blew up after 4 months....No help there either.

I would not recommend these guys .... quick to take your money ... terrible customer service ... I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

Taunton Audi

I've been on about them before but ...
... when they rebuilt my engine (after 6 weeks of debate with Audi Warranty) they chipped the paint of the back corners of my bonnet. Clearly it had been stood roughly on the points, despite Audi dealers having specific bags in which to keep A2 bonnets when removed. Yes, they did have it repaired, but hardly with 'good grace'.

They had also obviously stored many of the bits they had removed when they were waiting for Audi warranty in my boot. The carrier bags in my boot (you know, those reusable ones for the supermarket) were all spattered with oil when I picked the car up. I pointed this out also, but I think that they were too bored to take any notice.

There are a good few more examples, but I'm afraid the quality of Audi franchised dealer customer 'service' was a major deciding factor in buying a VW. They are no better, but they don't all want £100 + VAT per hour for labour!

Service in Barnstaple

If you live in or around North Devon, you might already know that the service at Silver Street Audi in Barnstaple is very poor value, to put it politely.
Just around the corner and a couple of hundred yards away is Barry Hews Automotive Services Ltd 01271 378222. No claim to be an Audi specialist per se, but hard to fault in any way after two visits with the A2. (Cam belt etc., gear-change linkage, engine management issues) Highly recommended!

Audi Southampton again.

How they get any business is beyond me. :D

Just about to set off on holiday when the service flap wouldn't lock shut properly. (I could close it, but it didn't sit properly and then I couldn't get it open again)

Rang them at 9:00 hours was told both the service guys were with people, but one of them would ring me when they had finished. An hour later no call, so I rang again, was told someone would ring me.

So in the end I just turned up at the dealership thinking it would be a case of slight adjustement, to be told that the service guys had gone home early for some reason and that someone would ring me on Monday about it.

I told them I would look forward to the call but as I was on holiday it would be pointless.

They never did ring me. Suppose its a case of the lesser car syndrome

birmingham audi

well..... just had the interim service.

they said as part of interim service, that they do a health check. health check also meant checking fluids, brakes, tyres etc inc pressures when i asked the guy what it included. But i knew one was 10psi lower and they didnt even spot it or bother to put any air in. or vac it like they said they did on the invoice.

what aload of crap as usual from the dealers.

Maybe you already know but you only get the low fluid level warning if you have DIS. I'd try adding some screenwash anyway just to ensure its not low on fluid.

Cheers Spike

yeah thanks your right, dont know what they did with it all then, audi must have syphoned it all out lol.

but arent they as part of the health check supposed to check fluid levels including screen wash and top screen wash up!!

I agree. They should check and top up all the fluids. Usually they itemise the screen wash on the bill, charge for a bottle of the stuff and leave the remainder of the bottle in the boot if they can't get it all in. Is there any washer fluid listed on your bill?

Audi U.K. Score 0/10

I got my `53 A2 1.4 SE Petrol as a 12 month old / 9000 mile ex demo. I have paid for Audi Dealer Servicing ever since. This year at 60000 miles it developed a noisy hydraulic tappet. Audi U.K. do not want to know about it. Carlisle Audi, who did all the recent servicing, checked my A2 Engine and decided they wanted to fit 16 Hydraulic Tappets and 16 Rockers. They also thought the Oil Pressure was " a bit low at tickover ", so also they wanted to Take the Sump off and fit a new Oil Strainer. Total Cost about £850. I complained that Audi claim so much benefit from using their Dealers for Servicing ( mine has Full Audi Service History ), so a Hydraulic Tappet should not have failed at 60000 Miles. They said they would knock £15 / Hour off the Labour and 10% off the Parts. Now about £720. I complained again and they offered a further reduction. Now down to about £620. They were hoping that Audi U.K. would match their offer but Audi U.K. refused to offer anything because of the Age and Mileage of the car ! So they are saying an Audi only lasts 60000 Miles when Serviced correctly. It`s Goodbye to Audi for me. My A2 and A6 are both due for a Service but will not be going any where near an Audi Dealer. I know a good mechanic who will fit 16 New Hydraulic Tappets for £30 / Hour. I`ve just changed the Oil myself to Semi Synthetic 10 / 40 with a Genuine Audi Filter for now.

Stafford Audi THUMBS UP!

Many thanks to Simon at Stafford Audi for working me in and completing the Cam Belt, Water pump change. Price was best i have seen at over 140 pounds cheaper than my closest Audi dealer. Service was excellent...made to feel extremely welcome by all. Simon, although busy, gave me a lot of time to explain and answer questions about the process.

Brilliant...if you need a cambelt change check ebay for their deals, and then give Simon a call.

Great service from Stoke Audi and Leeds Audi.

Just thought that I would pass on my experience of using Stoke Audi and Leeds Audi.

Cambelt change and oil service then later an aircon service with Stoke Audi. Good service, good price, managed to fit me in an hour earlier and time taken to ensure that I was happy.

Interim service, oil leak repair and MOT with Leeds Audi. Good service and a good price.

Both parts department very helpful.

Garnock MOT Centre - Glengarnock Ayrshire

This small independant is co-owned by a work colleague of mine in the Fire Service.

Booked Ada in to have the brake discs and pads replaced, plus the stainless exhaust I bought from awesome nearly 3 years ago fitted.

I am very impressed with their service and attention to detail. First off, they kindly allowed me to work alongside the mechanic (on the priviso I appeared with suitable safety boots) who patiently explained everything that was being done - so I'm finally learning how a car works !! LOL!

The stainless exhaust was a real pig to fit - as the pipe was fouling on the heat barrier for the fuel tank. This required quite a bit of thinking out the box and it ended up with every tech in the place plus Gordon the owner having a go - we got there in the end with much cutting/shaping and fabrication.

Owners son David is a fellow car club enthusiast and its evident your car is being treated with care.

Ada booked in for a service and MOT in a fortnight - I usually go to Audi for the 'stamp in the book' but on the basis of my experience yesterday I know my car will receive more personal attention at Garnock. Plus the Audi authorised repairer who have served me well to date have effectively been frozen out by the big franchise :(

Final - but not the most important - plus point for me with Garnock was that the bill for 4 hours labour was incredibly competitive - I'd reckon a quarter of what you'd pay at a main dealer!

Highly recommended to anyone in the central belt - around a half hour drive from Glasgow.

Glasgow Audi bodyshop - approved aluminium repair centre

Was in Glasgow Audi's repair shop in Hillington today having some warranty work on the A3 looked at. I didnt know they were aluminum approved and the tech I was speaking with reckons they're the only one in Scotland?

Anyhoo - main reason for posting this other than the 'ally approved' information for Scottish members - they have an A2 in being worked on just now. Its a 2004 TDi with 150k miles. I'm told that the repair after an arguement with some metal bollards is a cool £9 grands worth.

The owner is picking up the tab personally and having the car repaired as he does not want to part with it. Now there is devotion for you! ;)

I'm going to ask for a look around their aluminium set up when I take the A3 back in. All sounds very impressive and I'm reminded of martings great thread about his (Glen) car being restored to health after a rear end shunt. (it's a sticky entitled 'gutted' if any newbies havent seen it - great read with some brilliant pics of an A2 being taken apart and restored.

Harold Wood Audi, Essex

I have used them for almost 5 years now. Overall, about 7/10 and getting better.

A year ago I bought my A6 from my company. I'd had it since new and it had always been serviced at HW. Now that the bills are mine to pay, I'm paying a little more attention to things. ;) As the car is over 4 years old, it's eligible for their fixed price servicing, which I have to say is quite reasonable. A good way to keep us coming back to the franchise. Nothing large has failed on the A6 yet so I can talk of routine servicing only.

The A2. almost 10 yrs old, I've had it for 6. A mixture of Harold Wood Audi (who sold it to its first owner) and our good local independent. Audi's prices are always within 5% of the indie and their service is good (free collection, courtesy car etc) so so far so good. Again, apart from the front anti-roll bar, nothing big has failed during my tenure so no real test - but they treat me the same as when I took a brand new £35k A6 to them.

I have some things to sort on the A2 soon such as new dampers, body work and under-body parts to will see how they stack up then.

For parts that I fit myself, it's a toss up between Audi and Euro Car Parts. Prices are similar for small things but for the more specialist pieces of trim, Stoke Audi's mail order seems to be the nuts.
