Re map

So prior to buying my car ,having done lots of research I just knew a re map would be on the cards , so after picking up the car at the end of November I contacted Stealth for their help!
Talking to Vince he very kindly fitted my car in on their last day before the xmas break, so a trip up to Stealth on the 21st December was booked in.
I have only had the car 4 weeks , so only have had a chance to put 600 + miles on the clock but had found the power to be boom and then bust , plenty of bang ( for a small 3 cylinder !)but for a very short burst.
Well how did it go....
I can't thank Vince and his team enough , great knowledge ( sort of expected by the write ups on hear) polite curteous, and informative.
I didn't have to wait longer on arrival my car was taken straight in , 35 mins later I'm handed the keys to my re mapped car, with the instruction to go out for a drive and see what I think , no payment , no facts or figures , just take it for a drive , now there's belief in what you are doing !
Well I came back with a smile ! Paid the bill , and set off home .
The power now is so much more linear prior to the map the torque peaked at 1950rpm and was dropping by 2400rpm and was all but done by 3500 rpm ,now the previous max torque arrives at 1800rpm, peaks at 2000rpm and holds that peak till 3000 rpm ,and doesn't run out of breath until 4200rpm
Cruising back on the motorway it was quite happy to sit with the flow of traffic and had the grunt to overtake with a lot more gusto ?
VERY HAPPY

What power increase have you gained?
Was it put on a rolling road (guess not with the speed of the vehicles return)
Do you gain any additional MPG (if driven economically of course)
Cheers

Hi Howey
It may of been longer ? I didn't actually time it and a week has passed , but it was n't long ,
Yes it did go on their rolling road before and after ,I'm yet to check the mpg but from all accounts from previous maps from them it's likely to improve , I ll let you know as soon as I have done some miles, however I've only filled the car up twice prior so don't have a lot of numbers to compare it too

Wow they are clearly switched on working that quick!
Did they not give you any ball park expectations?

No ball park prior , but having read up on here I new roughly what I was getting power wise. However the numbers were less of a concern for me it was more about the driveability .
For the record the car made a health 98hp and 203 ft lb pre map ( a cold December morning may of helped ?) Peak power at 4106 and 2194rpm
Figures after 127hp and 228 ft lb peak power 2945 and 2100 rpm

I just looked at the dyno runs and they were 40 min's apart so probably closer to an hour rather than the 35 mins I thought ☺

What has it done to your insurance premium?

Wow, that was a quick turn around.
About 8 years ago we took our first A2 TDI 75 to vince and he had it in the garage for at least 3 hours, mind you they did a diesel purge on it as it was blowing a lot of smoke during the map procedure.
Vince also told us to take it out for a test drive before paying altho he did suggest we left the bonnet off, probably so we wouldn't drive off, ?

That is a seriously powerful A2. Vince can't have seen many that've produced that much oomph. Enjoy!

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Tom
I assume the rolling road was having a good day ! Basing the starting point at 90 not 98 that would mean 119 bhp which from what I've read sounds about right and what seems to be around what most tuners are quoting . Either Way was happy to find out that the car is running well and let's face it ,its not a hot hatch, it was all about making it more driveable .

It’s not uncommon for a factory car to be putting out more power than quoted.

There have been a number of 75’s that have had a starting point of around 80-82bhp.

My ATL is 125hp after a remap however it wasn’t running right at the time loose negative on the starter and alternator, since fixing this it made a huge difference and seems more powerful, also have a hybrid turbo
