Re-Mapping For Petrol 1.6 FSI A2

Do you own a petrol 1.6 FSI A2 and would like to get it remapped? The first person to ring Vince at Stealth Racing can have their A2 remapped for £100; this may take a couple of hours to do, or your money back. Stealth’s number is 01 926 812 259.

At a guess, between 7 and 10 bhp but the throttle response will also be better so it should feel much more lively.

Cheers Spike

A good remap usually improves engine efficiency which gives more power OR better fuel economy. If you don't use the extra performance then fuel consumption will be the same or slightly better. An extra 10 bhp will have no negative effect on engine reliability whatsoever.

Are there any negative side effects? much lower fuel consumption, engine over stressed etc?

Hi Stanley,

Although I drive a TDI, Stealth Racing did the remap work for me and I can thoroughly recommend them.

See the link below...

I can also fully endorse Spike's comments and add that I have not noticed any negative side effects with the fuel consumption what-so-ever. As Spike says, if you drive with your foot to the floor 100% of the time, then of course economy will suffer; but I am sure that even without the enhanced performance from the turbo, the remap will offer some power gains and increase overall drive-ability of your car. Therefore, you shouldn't need to rev has hard and thus economy may even 'improve'. (In theory, at any rate).

Cheers,

Darren

Hi Eagle,
Is this remap for the petrol 1.4 one they've done before to a petrol, or are they looking for a 'Guinea Pig' petrol a2?
At £100 I'm up for it. I'll ring them tmw if its not too late.

Cheers
Bob.

In the past the only way to do a petrol, was to re-chip it. but now they have the tecnology to do a re-map, and yes you are the first, but if it doesnt work Vince will put it back to its original settings and refund the £100.

what i never understand about remapping and things like this is if it was so easy and such a benefit why weren't the cars made like it? :)

An engine has lots of components and each component has a specification tolerance. This means that all engines vary a little in performance. The standard mapping of the fuel injection/ignition has to to be set up as a worst case situation that will work on all engines without a problem, usually with a safety margin built in just in case. In effect, custom mapping is looking at your engine alone, and making the best of what is available. This optimisation takes time, which is not available on the production line.

Edit : Equally, the manufacturer might have different priorities to the custom mapper. The manufacturer is trying to please everyone and is looking for a good balance of torque and power at minimal cost. Custom mappers will be appealing more to the enthusiast who more then lightly are looking at a bit more top end power, but above all, are prepared to spend money and time on getting the best out of what they have got.

Oh, I'm ready to be the guinea pig! Or the second guinea pig! Let us know how you get one, I'm ready for it. Even at 7bhp increase, it is 10% improvement for the standard 1.4.

Hi eagle'

Cheers for that , I've been too busy last couple of days to look further into this and ring Stealth. Let us know though if Stealth start doing something for 1.4 petrol.

Any news for the 1.4 A2 petrol

Hi every one.

I see its been a few months since the last THREAD on this subject of a remap for the 1.4 petrol.

Has there been any development. It seems to me like there are more than a handful that would like a little more Ooomph, 7-10% is good.

Is there a company out there up to the job???

Could there be a rolling road day organised to aid this development forward??

I'm sure I would be joining a long que.

I look forward to any positive news.

I would be interested in this , does Mike have a view on remapping for 10bhp I drive lots of cars with BHPs from 55 to 200 and yes you feel the big jumps but not the little ones eg our Polo at 55 sometimes feels more eager than my A2 maybe its that rough 3 cylinder roar you get. More Torque would be nice though but when you look at our Tdi peers their torque figures are nearly twice our petrols.

I was waiting for someone to involve me in this!

It is of course, horses for courses, but I agree, 6-8bhp will not really be noticeable in the real world and spending £250-300 on this is a waste of money in my view. Spending the same on a free-flow air filter and exhaust would release similar power and not be subject to disclosure to insurers, or increase consumption.

I know he's got a 1.6, but Ben is actually having the trial map taken off his A2 this weekend, so draw your own conclusions.

Cheers,

Mike
