Re-Mapping For Petrol A2

We considered having a remap on our 1.6 and decided £ for £ we did not feel the power to £ balance quite weighed enough towards power.

Ben
I would be very interested to know why you want it removing ?

I am interested to know if remap is not the answer how do us Petrol Power People eeek out more oooommmppphhh and get good value power per £ ;)

The trouble is that none of the petrols in the A2 range are turbo-equipped and it is only really possible to get big power increases easily by tweaking the turbo. You could of course add a turbo to a petrol engine, but then you're looking at a 4 figure sum!

Cheers,

MIke

Hi,

First off I should say that I agreed to be a guinea pig for the remap as I happened to be the only one with an FSI at Stealth Racing for the rolling road day. I had no particular prior urge to get my A2 remapped - having been happy with the performance & economy in its stock form. The remap itself also wasn't a typical Stealth Remap - it was simply a first guess modification of the various tunable parameters. It wasn't followed up with the usual Stealth-session.

Having said this, the result certainly was noticeable. Acceleration in particular was smoother going up through the gears. And the tendency for FSI to stutter at low pulling revs was gone. On the down side, the car did loose some fuel economy - between 5 & 10% - but this seemed to vary somewhat. Also the smoother in gear acceleration was hampered by lumpy deceleration. Now, Stealth were keen to resolve these issues, as this was the first time Stealth had remapped an FSI. I'm sure if I had spent a couple of hours with them getting the remap optimised for the car then these minor points could have been resolved. Stealth know their A2s.

So, why I'm having this removed? It's basically for warranty reasons. I still have a significant proportion of my Audi extended warranty left - and having the ECU remapped could invalidate certain cover provided by that warranty. Having had a replacement EGR pipe and NOX sensor, I don't want to expose myself to the risk of no warranty cover.

Perhaps when I stop renewing the extended warranty then I might head back up to Stealth for them to work their magic. The bottom line is that I don't need any more power from the stock A2 FSI. It was consistently giving me over 48mpg - and apart from the dreaded coil-packs, it has been mostly reliable. It's also beautifully quiet on the motorway (where I spend most of my commuting time). And I'm fortunate enough to have another car if I am looking for a bit more power.

If you are considering having your petrol A2 remapped - give Stealth a ring. They will certainly do their level best to get your car to your liking.

I wouldn't worry about it mate, so many people in the VAG arena get cars remapped and I've never heard of a dealer refusing warranty work due to such a map being present. 95% of them could/would never tell it was there in any case. Remember, this is just software and so long as it is done by a reputable tuner who knows their subject, no engine components or systems will be put under unrealistic pressures.

Just to let all those 1.4 petrol heads know.

I've had a good long chat with Vince at Stealth and booked an appointment for April. The reason I have chosen to go with Stealth is because of recommendations and there mass following for the A2. They have true enthusiasm for this little car.

They have echoed the opinions of others to the limited success of this operation, but all in the name progress.

Keep you posted, mytA2

A2 Petrol Re-map Up-date

Well I wish no news was good news. But alas NO!!

Vince at Stealth spent a whole morning giving it the once, twice over.

The main and initial problem with re-mapping the A2 1.4 petrol is gaining access to the Magneti Marelli ECU chip settings with a view of modification.

Audi have managed to code the settings making it very difficult to read/understand/adjust setting on the main chip.

It would be possible to download new settings from Audi or possibly a CUSTOMCODE supplier (try a web search) they seem to be the only firm offering anything for the 1.4 petrol A2. The gains will be very very limited and mostly in the mid range. Revo so far don't offer anything for the 1.4 petrol A2.

I believe there is a possibility of getting the ECU re-chipped, and this would make it easier to access to have a one off re-map for your engine. But there lies another problem. The chip inside the Magneti Marelli ECU that would require removal/replacement, has a resistor extremely close to one side of it. It was this resistor that really stopped Vince from going any further and doing a re-chip of my ECU. If the resistor had been exposed to to much heat it could of caused real problems for keeping the car on the road or even getting home. And Vince didn't have another ECU so best play it safe and go with his experience.

The good news from that day at Stealth Racing was that my car with a K&N filter, sports cat and stainless straight through exhaust produces 85bhp on the rolling road. Next up will be a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold which should add another 5-6bhp.

Latest for the 1.4 Petrol A2 Re-map

Further conversation with Vince at Stealth has revealed there may be new options for replacing the Eprom chip inside the ECU. NO PROMISES.

I hope this is the beginning of giving the vw/audi 1.4 16v some options. Maybe a supercharger or turbo further down the road will be realistic add on. AUDI have done it havn't they.

Do you own a petrol 1.6 FSI A2 and would like to get it remapped? The first person to ring Vince at Stealth Racing can have their A2 remapped for £100; this may take a couple of hours to do, or your money back. Stealth’s number is 01 926 812 259.

hi mate, noticed you have the same as me. Just bought my 1.6 fsi and unsure what fuel to use? super unleaded or just unleaded. dont know if its just my car but my car seems to misfire, or be a sluggish in low gears?

once i get to about 3k revs its like a porsche!!

does any one have any comments on this please.

thanks

andrew

I will be picking up the 1.6 FSI SE from the dealers in 2-3 weeks, is it still possible to have this guinea pig re-map done at stealth for £100???

Would be very interested if so.
