Has anyone had any problem with their rear drum brakes? I have only done 22000 miles. It makes a grinding noise when I brake at slow speed.Surely the brake pads can't be worn out that quick.
Mine does this too. When the car stands still and I release the brakes to let the car roll (on an incline) I hear a grinding noise, like the ripping bulk of a sinking ship.
I think that this is normal for a drum brake to do this...
Mine does it too if left for a while...3 days without driving. It goes after the first couple of brake applications.
I guess it is just regular corrosion of the drum being 'burnt' off.

Has anyone painted their rear drum covers? I ask as mine are starting to get surface corrosion. I recall someone mentioning this a long time back but there were concerns re heat build up.
Anyone got any tips?

Almost the only thing I remember from my physics lessons at school is that silver is almost the worst colour for radiating heat. Polishing the drums is worse. Glossy black is better, matt black is best.
i too, have had this problem. my dealer says i need to brake harder, but i think that is a bunch of crap. the guy who inspects my car told me that my rear brakes were almost TOO tight. could be just an adjustment thing. hasn't hurt any performance, it's just irritating!
