Rear door lock issue

Hi Guys & Girls,

I've just purchased my first A2 and have run into problems after owning it for only a day.

When locking the car either with the key or the remote, the rear drivers side door wouldn't lock.
Towards the rear of the door is a hole with a small red plastic lever inside.
On the rear passenger side door, which is operating correctly, when the central locking is activated the aforementioned lever moves up when locked and down when unlocked.
This doesn't happen on the rear passenger door.
As a quick fix, I thought I would be able to disengage the child lock, and flick the lever up, thinking that the door would be locked from the outside but could be opened from the interior handle.
It seems that now I can't open the door from the inside or outside at all.
As the door is closed, I can't get at the little red lever and the to the best of my knowledge, the doorcard can't be removed with the door closed.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

To me the problem sounds like your rear doors micro switch has gone, i think you can remove the door card while the door is closed (with alot of effort), i think someone has done this, but not sure once you've got the card off how you would go about opening the door.

Thank's for the advice, I noticed from reading previous posts that you've had some microswitch trouble.
I managed to bend some windscreen wiper wire into a shape which enabled me to get at the manual locking (red) lever and I beleive that I was able to disengage it, still can't get the door open though.
The internal door handle on the rear passenger side (which works) has some resistance to it where as the drivers side rear doesn't.
Does anyone know how accessable the lock mechanism is IF I can remove the door card. Some assembly drawings would be nice if anyone has any.

Got a feeling that the door card will be damaged when removing with the door shut.

When you get th edoor card off there's and aluminium cover inside of that that you have to remove then you can get to mechanism, see photo, its of the front door but its similar on the rear

Thanks for the pic, starting to make some progress now.
Managed to get the door card off surprisingly easily, and the aluminium inner wasn't too bad either. So I can now confirm that both of these items can be removed with the door shut without causing damage.
After removing the door card I noticed that someone had disconnected the connector to the lock solenoid. I can only assume that a previous owner has done this.
Even with all the door cards off still couldn't open the door.
I purchased a replacement lock and solenoid assy off ebay (£30ish) and by stripping it down managed to get an idea of what was wrong with the one fitted to the car.
By tapping the back of the solenoid with a small hammer, the vibration was enough to free up the jammed part of the mechanism.
Door is now open but latch mechanism still isn't working as it should be.
Will fit replacement as soon as I get hold of a suitably sized torx bit.

Anyone know how to detach the external door handle from the latch mechanism?
Can't get my hand in to it. Do you have to remove the handle?

If i remember right you remove the bar(well un clip it), i've attached another pic from when i did my front door you can see the bar from the handle and the clip (white), you do have to remove the window and frame i think to get it out 4 large torx or spline i think, 2 from the inside at the bottom of the window guides and 3 from the outside behind the rubber (bottom of the window/top of the door), do check this though as i've not done the rear door yet (still got mine to do)

When you remove the rubber as you can see in the photo you don't have to totaly remove it, but be a bit gentle with it as you can stretch it and then its a pain to get back on

Cheers Phil
