Rear Fog lights

Checked my lights this morning - darker mornings coming on and all that and noticed only one rear fog working. I've never used them while I've owned the car (!) so never noticed if it has one or two, although the lenses suggest two. Took the cover off and noticed no bulb in left side, but socket etc is there. Can a bulb be fitted?

I tried swapping the working foglight bulb from the off side and putting it in the socket in the corresponding near side but it still didn't work.

I reckon that's by design. Most cars only have one working rear foglight. Two burning fogs can te mistaken for brake lights.
I guess there's no wiring in the other socket.

I guess so.

Second socket isn't wired, but I recall that in the options list that dual rear fogs was a factory fit option. You could run a wire from the off side loom, but you'd need to find a connector to fit the loom plug on the near side, that'll be the hard part...

Yes left and right hand drive cars have only a light on one corresponding side for exactly the reason Dennis mentions there... so nothing wrong with your car. Surely you have driven behind other cars in fog and noticed this as normal? :)

All the vehicles I have owned have only ever had one fog light, but the lenses showed this to be the case. The Audi is made to look like it has two, but only one is wired. I don't believe it is the case that one fog light is the max permitted. I have followed a number of cars with fogs on both sides. Corsa and range Rover spring to mind.

Just the opposite it's the minimum requirement and as you point out there are many cars with 2. I consider 2 to be a safer and when I find the right terminal for the connector I wil be lighting up the nearside. But then I hate the dam things anyway, followed a comatose woman the other night on the M62 in her Corsa foglights on shame it was a clear dry evening... even I could see the light on her dash!

Abre,

In some cars the fogs don't turn off when you turn off the lights. So you can leave them on and forget them sometimes. To my shame I must admit that I am used to the switch in the Audi that switches off the fogs with the lights and doesn't turn them om when the lights are turned on again.
I drove around in my wife's car two days with the rear fog on wondering why people were flashing their lights at me....

Eagle-interesting. No issues with legality/MOT?

I wonder how much work they did for £95!?!

Seems like a lot of money for one wire....

Or did they do more ?? I suppose that the light unit is intact and that there is a lamp holder in it. So all they needed to do is run a wire to the opposite side and insert a lamp. Maybe upgrade a fuse.

Maybe I'll do it myself too.... I do like the enhanced visibility from the rear........

I was under the assumption that this was quite easy. But I can't find any space to run the wire.... I need to connect a wire from one unit to the other. I don't want to run it visible in the boot so it needs to be behind the panel. Does anyone know how to remove the inner panel at the back of the boot or how to run a extra wire in there ??
