Rear seat being obstructive

Good afternoon. I have removed the rear seat (5 seater) in order to clean it. I did this months ago and have only now got around to having a go at cleaning it. Basically, it's folded and won't release, in order that I can shampoo the wearing surfaces. Any ideas? There seem to be a few people who have had problems with the seat stuck in the unfolded position, but I couldn't see any where it's stuck in the folded position.

It's a while since I did mine but I recall that you need to use a socket or similar to release the pointy bits at the back edge of the seat base that engage in the floor when the seat is in the car.

You need to ’trick‘ the seat into thinking it is installed in the car, I.e. the use of sockets to simulate the anchor holes in the car is the way to do it.
You have to remember to reverse this trick before putting back in the car otherwise you will have the reverse problem!

Before you start attempting anything else try putting all your weight on it by sitting or kneeling on the back of the seat edge nearest where the headrests are and hopefully it will do the trick and release it.

Failing that put it back in the car and do the same when it is clicked in place, after sliding the front seats forward first.

Hope this helps ??

Assuming the mechanism works like the 4-seater rear seats, adapt this method for opening them to suit the single bench. Put the seat on its back on a flat surface. From the 'hinge' end, put your knee in the middle front underside of the seat and you can normally just press the rings on the silver anchor bolts downward by hand. You should hear the mech release and be able to unfold the seat. Don't let the back go over the angle it would rest at in the car though, or internal damage could result. To re-lock, put it back on its back, fold the bottom up and simply apply the knee again until the rings click back out into their 'locked' position. You may have to operate the handle to encourage them.

As others have said it can be released quite simply. Although the danger of over extending the seat back makes refitting the seat and cleaning it in situ a far safer option. Always wary of unfolding seats out of the car for that very reason.
