Rear Wheel Bearing

Hello list

I have what sounds like a rear wheel bearing gone on my 2001 1.4 Tdi.

Looking on fleabay, there seems a very wide variety of prices, from http://tinyurl.com/84njfra at £27.50 delivered to this one http://tinyurl.com/7y346wl at more than £70. Is one worth more than twice the price of the other??

Also, can anyone confirm that they are not "handed" i.e. the bearing will fit either size?

Thanks in advance.

The rear wheel bearings are not 'handed' but there are two types - I'd guess it depends if you have rear drum or disc brakes.
The bearings have a built in magnetic pick-up ring for the ABS sensor. I've read a couple of owners have had problems with the ABS signal on the cheaper bearings but don't know the specific make. (for info the genuine Audi bearing is £120)

You've got to be careful not to buy a bearing for a 1.2 TDI, too, as these only have 4 studs, I believe.
I fitted a cheap wheel bearing to the front of my car some time ago when I was feeling poor, and it cost me more in the long term. The whole hub/bearing assembly slipped outwards slightly, causing my geometry to be wonky and the induction ring to be out of alignment with the ABS sensor, in turn causing all manner of warning lights.
