Reason for the low number of "Project" threads

Simply because everyone is posting in the Today I... thread

I believe it is unwieldy long (478 pages and counting as of today) and lots of hidden gems of info are difficult to find/search for

Essentially every member posting updates there, would have a Project thread of their own if their posts could be automagically compiled (I know this is impossible, just sayin)

I am aware of this kind of thread being popular among OC forums but wanted to give my $0.02 - thoughts?

On another forum I frequent there is a similar thread. Always seemed a bit pointless to me, if you have a dedicated topic for your vehicle(s) why would you double post the same updates?
But people do...

I post in the today thread when I have a tiny little piece of news which doesn’t seem worthy of a whole post in my “blog” thread.

I thought that’s what it’s for anyway

I think it was set up as it was popular on other forums. I never post on it or look at it as I prefer to have a dedicated thread for a subject. It’s nice for those that like to keep up with what others are doing though so I don’t mind it being there. I’ve seen a few members link back to relevant posts on there that have good information so I don’t think it will get lost.

On the Dutch forum I've got some "blogs" about my A2's.

When I encountered a collision (not my fault) with one of my A2's, the guy from the insurance asked if I had some history and receipts of the damaged car, when he was coming around to have a look at the damage/costs.
Errrr, eh, no...... However, I've got a blog on a forum.....
Oh cool, he said, show me! So he looked and scrolled a bit..... And said, "yup, that is sufficient enough".
Amazed is the correct word for it from my side, that's for sure! All in all it took a year and some before they did a pay out, but still, it helped me to have a diary/blog of the car.
Have a new one now for the ATL;

Cheers, Menno.

Thanks to all that shared their thoughts. I never meant to get rid of the "Today I..." thread (even if I wanted to, not for me to say!) but I was making an observation because I have read many posts recently mentioning the lack of "Project" threads. I hope the bloody weather improves soon so I can start my Project thread too... (never buy a car during Winter!)

I have made the same reflection as you.
I think it is easier to post smaller events there than having to come up with a smart name for a project thread, haha.

Funnily enough I was thinking along the same lines with my current silver TDi scrapyard dodger. I've already smeared myself over a project thread with the Devon Car, started but currently 'resting ' on PYXi the FSi so didn't really think there was much more to add with this silver one.

As it happens, it has now thrown up a couple of new things and some bits and bobs that may be of wider use.

Whether it merits an actual project thread though, I'm not sure.

Regardless, on the whole I regard the Today thread as the 'just polished my car, it's really shiny / new MOT today / went for a nice drive / fitted new mats etc etc. Essentially chat that doesn't warrant a place in A2OC history

Thinking about it, perhaps the distinction between Today and project threads is the Today thread is the human bit: how A2's are part of our everyday lives, whereas project and info threads are more the nuts and bolts of keeping our cars on the road and in good fettle.

What has actually happened is Today has also morphed into the 'hmm, want to tell people about this but it's not much and I don't really know where to put it' thread. That's why I keep posting on it

It's already been said but I have to agree with the distinction between the two thread types, Today I.....is things that you do day in day out that is of no real consequence and Project is what it say's the actual project on improving, fixing and fettling your pride and joy. I think there is a place for both thread types but folks simply post in the Today I thread as it's easier than starting a Project thread.
