Red Needle Display Problem

The needles on my car used to light up red when the ignition was turned on.
They have now stopped working, but still illuminate when the lights are on??

It's been into Audi but shows no faults when it's plugged into the computer.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this has happened?

Cheers
Ant.

because someone turned it off via VAG COM.

Channel 19 in the Instrument panel, but only for >2002 cars:

Skalen: numbers
Zeiger: pointers
Fahrlicht: lights
Zündung: ignition
ein: "on"

Initialy I thought your instrument light rotory fader wheel may have been turnd down accidently so the needles could only be seen when it was dark due to the low level of backlighting. However, I have just checked my 2001 car and the speedo and rev counter needles are only illuminated when the light switch is turned on, confirming Bret's comment that its only an option on 2002 onwards, model year cars.

Apologies for crashing the thread, but my speedometer/rev counter appear slightly dull when lit (the white decals). Could this be a VAGCOM thing where the level could be increased? The 'light wheel' has been turned all the way up, but wondered if there could be more to be had??

no, there isn't, well, if you open a window it might go up *slightly* as the light sensor assumes it's sunny then.

The fading of white LEDs over time was always known as an issue, and there's not much to be done about it.

Thanks for the replies.
My car is a 2001 model but I was sure that the needles used to light up??
I must be getting mixed up as my wife has a 2002 model.

Cheers anyway.
