Red oil can symbol help

Please help! The red oil can symbol has been coming on recently. It beeps loudly and then continues to flash silently.
Initially I mistook it for a low oil level and kept refilling it until I realised its actually the oil pressure signal. Took it too my local garage who said I overfilled it. They drained 1.5l oil and sent me away. The symbol continued to flash so I took it back. They then flushed the engine and changed the oil filter, but the red oil can symbol is still flashing. It seems to come on after I've driven the car for a while and the engine warms up.
Please can anyone advise me what to do?
Thanks for reading

It could be as simple as an oil pressure sensor being faulty or the wire going to it breaking down.

Depending on your model it’s normally to the top half of the engine on the right hand side and has a single wire going to it. This wire very commonly breaks up and snaps.

Did the garage do any diagnosis other than just changing the oil?

Thanks so much for replying. The garage didn't do any diagnostic work and I don't think they did anything apart from changing the oil. I'm planning to go back and speak to them to see what else they can do. This is really helpful re the sensor /wire. I'll be sure to mention it

I’d suggest finding another garage. They are possibly doing work that doesn’t need to be done.

I hope its just the sensor. I'll ask the garage about this as not sure I could check it myself. Thanks

Any garage you use to work on your A2 needs to use a computer program to scan the car before doing any work. The best software is either VW's own ODIS, or Ross-Tech's VCDS.

Ross-Tech sell commercial packages for VCDS, and also offer VCDS-Lite (which covers the A2) as shareware. However, you still need to register VCDS-Lite before it has full functionality.

There are good reports from users of XTool's VAG401 scanner as a cheaper alternative, and it may be worth investing in one of those for yourself.
