Regional Socials

Just seen Mike's (A2Sumo) update on another thread where he is proposing regional socials.

Earlier in the year, we talked about planning a social in Yorkshire. We have the ideas - a lovely heritage location at Saltaire to meet to admire the cars, a nice pub for food and a route to drive through Tour de France scenery (to be researched by chb and Special Edition!)

I am very happy to work on the organisation taking advice from Mike & Vonnie. First we need a date. We have some suggestions but need to make sure it doesn't clash with any other A2OC events.

Regards

Hilary

Mike - I've sent you a PM but could you PM me your mobile number as I don't have it from earlier messages.

I think this is a great idea Hilary. Provided Mike has an overview of the calendar and can advise on his and Vonnies experience regarding some of the practicalities of organising a safe and successful meeting it could work well - perhaps across the country!

I don't see the updated post from Mike you refer to though?

Sounds like a great idea. I've been to Saltaire many times but never bore of going again.

James

Up north, but south to Murdo

An update to say this idea is very much in progress now...

I'm working with A2Sumo (Mike) for us to arrange a social at Saltaire. We have fixed the date for Sunday 22 May so please make a note if you are interested and hope to see many members there.

Mike will be putting the event on the calendar in the usual format in due course. More details to follow in a few weeks...

Looking forward to organising a great A2OC social in Yorkshire

Regards

Hilary

Hilary, I have seen your PM re parking location. I will get back to you with details later however if there is an expectation of 30 odd cars i suspect the official car park will be best, especially for those unfamiliar with the venue. Hopefully I can manage to cling on to 'my' A2 until May.....:(

However for those who are new to Saltaire (and even those who may not know) there are a number of options to explore in the vicinity. In addition to the village itself there is the historic church and former Mill with some fantastic homeware and book shops and the Hockney gallery. At the bottom of the hill is the Leeds/Liverpool canal and cross the River Aire takes you into the restored Roberts park. Walk another few hundred yards and there is the victorian cable tram ride up t'hill onto Baildon Moors with lovely views and walks. Saltaire has plenty of places to eat in addition to those inside the Mill. And for car/motorcycle historians Jowett cars and Scott motorcycles were built nearby.

I really hope that we get a good turnout for this event, also hopefully we will see some new "faces" / Cars as well as our faithful regulars, due to the fact that this is now accessible to more of our Northern members.

At the moment I have no idea if I will be able to attend or not, but I can guarrantee that I will be there if I possibly can be.
This, to me, is as much an official A2OC event as any we do and so please do try and make it along if you can.

Thanks to Hilary and Mike and Vonnie for helping to put this together.

Let's make it another great event for the club.

Thanks Adrian

I never knew that about the Victorian cable tram ride

Making a family weekend of this one. Looking forward to it. Need to research stuff for the wee ones to do. :D

Thanks for being the driving force on this Hilary!
I guess we need a route to drive round/explore (to get some nice A2 pics) and to decide a venue for a meal.
My vote would be a bit of the TdF route followed by a proper Saltaire/Shipley curry (arguably the best in the UK).
Cote de Buttertubs by A2 :) Looking forward to this, will have to get the last bits done on CC2 in preparation.
