Remote Control MISBEHAVING.....!!!

The Battery in my remote control was getting weak and would occasionaly fail to open/close the car - I have replaced the battery and all was fine, but now the alarm and fuel door release switches do not light up and opening either of the front doors (when the ignition is turned off0 takes 2 pulls of the door lever to open the doors...!!! I have tried to reset the remote, but nothing happens when I push the open/close button when in the ignition (on position), whereas it used to before...???
HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE....

THANKS
CHRIS

Hi Chris,

The issues with the doors and the fuel flap release button are wholly disconnected to the replacement of the battery in the remote key fob. It is simply a coincidence that, shortly after the changing the battery in the fob, your A2 has developed this problem.

Your car has developed a common problem with the microswitch circuits inside the door lock mechanisms. Partially dismantling the doors, removing their locks and doing a bit of soldering on the circuit boards inside is the solution. If you're not confident doing this yourself, it's a service that I provide.

In the meantime, to open the fuel flap, you need to open the boot and remove the bulb-access panel on the right-hand side, as though you were going to change a rear indicator bulb, for instance. With the access panel removed, you'll see a thin metal bar that's mounted vertically. Pull the bar downwards and the fuel flap will pop open.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom
Many thanks for your advice - is there a detailed repair write-up on this subject, as I'm not familiar with the door lock mechanism...??? I've discovered that if I push the fuel door release button and at the same time push the unlock on the remote, that the fuel flap opens - saves opening the tailgate ...

A few of Sarge's 'How To' guides should get you there. Start here.

As to fixing the microswitch although next link is for rear door it will give inspiration. Contains other useful links but somewhat spoiled by the photobucket fiasco.
