Remote Fob Key Mystery - Lets solve It

Hi guys, I have been trying to find a spare and the correct remote fob for my A2. Trouble is even looking on eBay there is MANY different key fobs that look the same, but have differing part numbers,....yet... the sellers state they are for our beloved A2's.

(Whilst I am aware that the immobiliser won't work, until that is, a new transponder is installed into the key bit of the fob, and programmed to the car, it is the remote fob use that I am interested here, to arm/disarm & lock/unlock the car using the fob.)

What I thought was if you all would be so kind to click open your fob and state here your part numbers written on your remote fobs, so we can see if there is any differing ones, if so, what the parts numbers would be.

My Key number is: TEMIC-MANILA 433.92 8Z0 837 231/ 355029

Please see pic attached, as you notice, there is no letter after the '231' yet others have a letter i.e 'D' , 'N' , 'P' etc

Thanks
Sarge

Key Fob

Hi,

Only have the A4, B5, 2001 key at the moment.

8D0 837 231 A Same frequency.

As you notice, only the car identifying number is different. The A is added as well.

I will check the numbers on the A2 keys tonight. Just had one done at the dealer about 1 month ago so will check that one too.

DJ.

I just got hold of a SPARE remote fob, it says 8Z0 837 231D (same as yours Mike) 433.93
Also it says A2/A4 on it, and week 44 2003.

As I understand it, some A2's are CAN & earlier ones are KKL, I wonder if the key has any significance to this?!

I shall try to code the new remote to my car sometime, & will report back on it.

Hello

Errr...anymore takers?

Dear Sarge,

Having the same problem you did in 2007... Have an A2 with exactly the same key numbering as yours. No final letter at the end. Did you solve this mystery?

Thanks!

Odinaldo

Yes, if yours doesn't have the letter after the number, it will have 355029 number after the main number, this is important as it is the only one which will work with your Convenience Unit.

So, if you have a current remote fob numbered 8Z0 837 231/ 355029 then this is the one you must get to work with your car, like wise if your remote is numbered 8Z0 837 231D then this is the one you must get as a replacement/additional remote fob.

Cheers

Sarge,

I do believe I've got a fob you'll want to get your hands on!

As my old A2 1.4TDi SE 75 is now at the salvage yard, you're more than welcome to have my second key... they won't be needing it!
