Hey guys,

Im gone try and install some electrical wires between the fuse box and the centre console. But I cant figure out how to remove the trim under the steering wheel? I haven't been able to find any schematics of that area either.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
Hope this helps - 2 screws underneath and 3 tabs, then unhook OBD connector.
On the RHD cars you need to undo the front service latch hook too, but I'm assuming yours is LHD.
When I took mine off, 2 out of the three tabs were already broken - I had to bond the plastic back on so the clips had something to attach to.

I believe the steering wheel has to come off to do it properly, without breaking tabs. Stand to be corrected though ...

'Fraid not Mac, it comes off with plenty of room under the steering wheel, or at least it has in my car. You may need to reposition the wheel though, I have it fully out and almost fully up.

That's good. I intended to remove the trim on mine last year, but the info I found pointed towards wheel removal, so I didn't bother, did the electrics mod another way!

Also do not forget to disconnect the service flap release handle... and reconnect it during the rebuild. There is no need to remove the drivers right foot guide either, just push it towards the right of the dash. Either put some Blutac or Vaseline on the bit so the bolt sticks to it and does not drop down behind the foot guide.

I cannot remember undoing it - but I have recently reconnected mine & from memory the end of the cable terminates in a T shaped piece. This just clipped back into the back of the plastic handle. So to undo, I'd say have a look at it and pop the T piece out of the clips, possibly using a screwdriver.
The handle remains attached to the trim. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

I just checked - it is dead easy, no tools needed.
You just push the bottom end of the service flap handle up and this releases the T piece on the cable, slide the handle back slightly to allow the T piece through the gap in the handle and that's it.

I dropped two of the bolts securing my instrument panel to the frame running across the steering column down behind this panel and wondered how to retrieve them (giving it a bash in strategic places doesn't' result in them dropping on to the floor unfortunately) - now I know.

Love this forum.
