Resetting your service indicator (after a service, of course)

If you don't have VCDS (or simply don't want to use it) the following should help.

I haven't "analysed this to death" so you might have to use some "trial and error".

Also you can reset the service indicator on a DIS or non-DIS car like this.

PLEASE only do this if you really have serviced the car! (not that anyone would cheat of course) :)

Turn the car off,
With your left hand press both buttons on the instrument cluster (The one that resets the trip and the other one that is used to adjust the clock or run a check)
Turn on the ignition while holding both buttons down.
Wait a second or two (you might have to vary this if it doesn't work first time)
Then remove and replace your finger from the Date/Time / Check button (the one on the left)
If that doesn't work then try again with different timing, but it will work.

The thing to note is that this resets it to a fixed service interval (basically one year or 9,800 miles)
If you want to rest it to Variable servicing (only relevant if you are using long-life oil) you need to do that via VCDS.

BUT, since all of our A2s are at least 12 years old now, the recommendation is to NOT use a variable service interval anyway, so this option is the better one.

If you do your own servicing then this could be useful, but if you get a garage to do it for you sometimes they forget or don't know this easy way of doing it.

I just checked this on an A2 with DIS and it worked ok, I haven’t rechecked it on a non-DIS car.

Corrections and additional help is more than welcome.

Hi. I've done a little video walkthrough on this. Hope this helps

DIS is the full screen display between the tach and speed on your dash.
