Resyncing Remote Key Problem

Apologies for making a new thread on this subject as I know there are many. I just never wanted to hijack someone else's thread.

When I bought my car last month neither of the remote keys would work via the buttons. So I bought some new energiser batteries (made sure they were branded ones as some of the cheaper ones seem to be doa) and installed them. I tried the first key and regardless of what method I used I couldn't get anything from it. I tried the next one and by using the method of pressing unlock button in the ignition it worked fine.

I have been using that one for a couple of weeks with no problem. The other day I received my new buttons for the keys and replaced both of them. Now with them looking the dogs ******* I thought I'd have one last go at fixing the one that was not synced. With no luck I took the battery out the one that was still working and tried it with that and nothing. So I put it back in the working one and sure enough now I can't sync that one. I'm now wishing I had not bothered.

I've looked all over this forum, Audi forums, VW forums, YouTube and not found anything that has worked.

I'm pretty sure they can be fixed after all I'm the one that caused the second one to stop working by taking the battery out. Both of them will open and close the windows when the button is held and lock turned in drivers door. I guess this proves the batteries are fine in both. Both keys also work fine to drive the car etc.

So I'm not sure what to do.

Could it be my timing of doing various methods e.g. Length of pressing buttons or pauses in between?

Could it be I have tried too many times and I need to give the car a break?

Could it be I have tried the keys too many times and need to take the battery out of the key each time I try to resync them?

If they need reprogrammed where would be the cheapest place to look to get them done? (ideally in the Glasgow area)

If anyone has any tips at all or advice I'd appreciate it greatly

Open Door
Put key into ignition and turn to ignition (do not start car just turn to 2nd click where dash lights up)
Immediately turn off and remove key
Press unlock on remote fob
That's it!

Sorry to ask this but are you sure that you have put the battery back the right way around.

Basically the option of putting they key in the ignition, turning it on and pressing the unlock should work with a key that was previously paired.

The other thing to do is to remove the new key pad. Some have a pin that is too long and so permanently presses the switch. This prevents it from working.

I suspect that this is the case here.

If the old pad works and the new one doesn't, check the length of the little plastic "pins" that operare the tiny switches. Adjust the length if one is too long.

Thanks both for your input, yeah batteries were the right way round. As for the one that was working before that battery was never taken out I just switched the unit out to the other key. The button pads were the ones recommended by yourself Steve. I knew they were not the problem as it was working fine with it before I opened it.

I decided to take them all apart clean everything and check all connectors are touching the battery. The one that was working took two or three attempts then is sprung in to life. The other nothing :(, tried countless times.

I reckon that the other one has never been paired to that car/CCCU. The ignition option only works if the key has been previously paired to the CCCU.

So you need a visit from someone with a VCDS cable, to code it properly.

Try inserting the key, turn on the ignition. Press the lock/unlock while the ignition is still on then remove the key ASAP and try again. If that doesn’t work perhaps the battery in the fob has expired.

what you can’t unlock and open door using key in door lock? If so Liberal spraying of WD40 into the lock whilst keep trying the key, wipe off the blade as it gets dirty and repeat eventually the lock will give and turn.
