Retrofit Seat Heating

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has done this?

Trying to decide on my wiring options. Am thinking about the proper buttons / regulators that sit each side of the console.

But they are very expensive, so Im wondering about doing a switch potentiometer on each seat, like a dimmer switch, so you turn it which clicks them on and then the turning range adjusts the heat. I think this is how the rheostats work except no temp sender would be used apart from the user in the seat lol.

How have others done it if any

I'm doing this in 2011 but I'm using an OEM control panel...

You mean the rheostats?? As looking at the A2 wiring diagrams they are individaul units, and on ETKA they are £50 each, the little boxes that sit to the side of the storage tray in centre console??

Or can you get a climate control unit with them built in?

Yer thats for cars with climate. But changing the whole climate would be very expensive so the easy option is to buy the rehostats which sit either side of the storage console. For cars without climate that have heated seats

Heated seats

Looking at the built in climate panel and the one without it may be possible to retrofit equivalent vag standalone switches the only thing missing would be the heated seat emblem

Yes the tt switches were one of my thoughts too
I think it boils down tom where you wish to put them in.
It might be possible to disassemble the switch and drill a hole in the climate panel on the curved sections at either edge end this is where the original fit ones are smother is space I just wonder whether theywouldlook naff like this as you would have two large knobs stickingnoutmeither side of your climate panel. So this makes me think that in the space between the gear lever a d handbrake mint be good
What do you think?
