Retrofitting OEM upgrades and Insurance.

Could anyone share their experience on insuring a car after retrofitting OEM upgrades.

Did retrofitting make it harder to obtain insurance? Did some insurers outright refuse to insure the car due to the modifications? Did you need to start using providers that specialise in insuring modified vehicles?

Did it affect your premium? If so was it a major difference?

One of my cars is heavily modified (a8 winter wheels, lowered suspension, Votex kit, mfsw, rnse, heated leather etc etc) though much of it OEM. Admiral didn’t seem to give a monkeys. It was the same on their multi car Policy as another A2 I have. My 1.2 costs more (presumably because it was imported and is lhd) though I am an over 40 with 20 years + ncd

My car had leather heated seats and steering wheel added, TT alloys with bigger tyres, slightly lowered suspension and an engine remap. Didn’t affect my premium at all.

The thing they ummed and awwwed about was the A2OC sticker and number plate holder.

I don't know how's that possible, when I check how mods would effect my insurance, it feels a falling leaf on the hood would cause higher premium.

My car has many upgrades fitted mechanically and bodily
I insured it Through Adrian Flux who wanted photos of the car and a full list of all modifications
They then gave me an agreed value policy

Many of the insurers are ridiculous. On a previous car they complained about a replacement stainless steel exhaust, said it should be original. What's the point of an original mild steel exhaust on a 1980s car (MK1 MR2)?
