Road Wheels - Slight Judder on take off?

Hi all. Noticed for a while that my A2 just doesn't feel like it used to. There seems to be a noticeable drop in revs when setting off in first gear, which makes it feel 'awkward'. It doesn't feel like it will ever stall, but definitely doesn't feel as responsive as it should. Power seems down slightly too. Also notices that it seems a little noisier too, so I asked my better half to start & stop a few times while I watched & listened. Hard to tell if it is noisier than normal as it is normally noisy (as we all know) but I did notice a definite juddering of the front wheels on take off??? They didn't rotate smoothly but seemed quite notchy, if that makes any sense?
It is a 75 diesel with 140,000 mile on the clock. I just thought i'd ask you guys if any have experienced similar issues or can suggest likely causes before I take it to the garage for their input?

Cheers

Mick

Could it be front brakes not releasing properly? There is only a piston on one side of the caliper, and it relies on the other sliding sliding on two pins to release. I've known these to get sticky on other cars.

It could be the brakes. That may explain the wheel judder. Would that cause the revs to drop though? I'm not sure when the brakes were last checked. Presumably during the last service or MOT, but not a given.

Clutch on its last legs? I have a similar physical sensation in my car too now these days, on 133k miles and I'm thinking it's the clutch. It just struggles a bit to pull away in low revs, harder to blend smoothly to pull away.

Thanks Dan. I don't think it is slipping & not entirely sure it is noisy... it just doesn't feel right. If a new clutch is required, where do you think you will go to get it done? Stealth?

Just think what ELSE you could have done at "Stealth" at the same time? 6th gear conversion? JDD box fitted? (The clutch is then only a very nominal amount more to do at the same time! Go on, what's stopping you? LOL! Well, maybe ~ £1725 for the 6 - speed job and ~ £500-£550 for the JDD box?

I'll likely as not take it to my local indie VAG specialist Surrey Lodge who did my 5th gear mod years back. As to what's stopping me going for a 6th gear? Money, or rather the lack thereof, and I'm not yet convinced about the Bluemotion box idea.
