Roof bar installation tips?

Am probably going to need to use my roof bars for the first time in a few weeks time - any tips on how to install them? They're genuine OE Audi (although bought 2nd hand off the FleaBay) - I've got OpenSky but I understand this shouldn't be a problem. Don't plan on putting much weight up there, but it's a baulky item (but comes in its own flightcase so should be fine up there).

Any other tips on what to secure items to bars with these days? I'm not going to buy a roof box.

I believe it is Johan who has Opensky and uses a roof box but he uses Thule and twists them slightly to avoid damaging the glass. Audi do not recommend their bars with Opensky Dan but I imagine you have done your research. Do you have the torquing Allen key that originally came with the bars? I would tell you the Nm but mine is in the back of the car and the car is at Monks (my man) at the mo.

If you were a boy scout attaching should not be a problem.

Regards

Neil

Ha ha, yes got the Allen key (somewhere) and was a boy scout and have a pack of elastic bungee cords ready and waiting!

Others on this forum have stated OpenSky with roof bars is generally regarded as safe.

Back from a session of successful motoring with the roof bars installed - excellent additional luggage capacity!
Just a thought though - is there a way to manually disable the electric operation of the OpenSky for when you've got the bars on? Just in case someone accidentally attempted to open the roof when the bars were on - to prevent damage? (it only occurred to me as my 3 year old has a habit of pressing every button he can see in the car at the moment so just in case!).

Reckon it knocked a fair few mpg off my travels as well!
