Any recommendations as to the best ones to fit?

I've got Thule ones. Fit perfect. Keep in mind that the max load is limited to 40Kg.

Thanks for the info Dennis, are there any problems with the clamps marking the bodywork and do the supports locate in the gutters or on the roof?

Thanks

I must admit that I never drove with the bars ... I merely bought them (secondhand & cheap on the internet) to go skiing.

But I did attach the bars a few times to get the hang of it.
They go on and off with ease. The width for the front and rear bar are in the thule A2 kit. The bars grap around the roof, the A2 has no rain gutters, so the doors must be open to fit them.erywhe
There are markings in the doors (little traingles) where the bars should be fit. I can fit them by myself, no sweat.

The clamps are plasticoated everywhere and the foot rests on a rubberslab under the foot, nothing there to damage the car.

I bought the Thule ones because my A2 is a company car so in two years it's bye bye. I only have to change the adapter kit to fit it on another car (without roofrails or gutters).
The Audi ones are only suitable for Audi's, probably even only for A2's.

I have some Mont Blanc ones. Bought from A2 owner on here

Try www.montblanc.fr for more info.

Not used yet as only really required for holidays etc

I bought the specific Audi A2 bars (about £100) and have successfully carried my kayak with them. The downsides are:- however you fit the clamp in the door aperture, the rubber seal on the door hits the clamp and makes the door more difficult to close; and the clear plastic strips (supplied) that are then permanently stuck on the roof look a bit tatty (I believe they are there to prevent the risk of the rubber feet taking the paint off when the bars are removed).

I have a set of Thule bars used on the previous Passat and (with a different set of rubber feet) the Accord. Fitting/removal is easy (5 minutes) and very little wind noise (compared to the previous Halfords set used on the Vectra).

Make sure you clean the area where the feet/clamp sit before fitting, any grit between the foot and the car will damage the paintwork (presumably why Audi supply plastic strips with theirs). After multiple uses no sign of damage to the Passat and none after two trips on the Accord. I remove them after each use.

I would expect their A2 application to be equally good. Recommended.

I've bought some excellent ski-clamps secondhanded, also from thule. Everything fit's on the A2 like a charm. When I'm on my skiing vacation I'll take some pictures of the A2.

Oh, and I also carried some big plates of plywood on top of the A2.

:) I didn't drive any faster than 50 Km/h. With the plywood tied to the bars and to the front of the rear (around the servicemodule-flap-thing). The plywood was 120cm by 240cm. If it wasn't dark I would have taken some pictures.
