Running awful after nearly running out of fuel

I have a few issues in the past with my Audi A2 1.4 petrol running rough miss fire etc mine is the Aua engine , but lately it has been running really well without a mishap. I was running very low on petrol very low indeed to the point of stuttering into the petrol station ( I know very naughty) first time I have let this happen. I then filled the car up with petrol and then after driving away car was runny very stuttery and then the dreaded flashing engine management came on and car was very juddery on tick of , I thought after driving it back the house it would clear the fault once petrol has started to run through the system but no runs awful and constant flashing engine management light.

Do you think I have blocked the fuel filter with crud or could it be something else. Any ideas please.

Thanks in advance.

I would definately start with the fuel filter. It's designed to keep crud out of our system. Did you prime the system a little extra by turning ignition on/off a couple of times, just after you refilled it?

Hi Guru thanks for the reply I didn't try priming it, do you think the fuel filter is now knackered and that I should get a new one.

Sounds like your injectors could be a bit blocked up. Try some Redex or petrol injector treatment cleaner and see if that helps to solve the intermittent tick over and running problems. As well as a fuel filter change, it could hopefully be a simple solution that works.
