Scratch!

Scratched my A2.

Not deep (you can't see it in the wet). Any A2-specific tips?

(Here's something I learned: when the whole car park is full bar one space, there might be a reason)

So you thoughed your a2 was smaller then it actually was :D

To solve the scratch

that is if you're not having it sprayed

Then use a colour wax (to the nearest colour of your car) and start buffing

I had to do a lot of scratch removing from those d*mm cats of the neighbour who thoughed that my bonnet was a sun-lounger

Those Mr Dent people or similar are fantastic, about £100 for a scratch but not sure about aluminium panels?

beckettesque,

If the scratch is not deep as you say, then I would strongly recommend the auto-glym cutting polish, (purple label on bottle; I think). This is fine stuff and really does remove most marks, including damage to the lacquer on metallic paint; just so long as the paint itself is not broken. Follow this with a coat of their 'super resin polish', (red label), and this should be enough to see a full restoration.

Good luck. :)

Cheers,

Darren

i'll agree with Darren here - you can also go one further with 2000 grade wet'n'dry (or 10 micron, whichever you can find), autoglym's bodyshop stuff is also good for paint. (i've used it for metal too and that doesn't work as well)
I personally find the paint renovator too fine, it's a bit "wimpy". Go both along and across the scratch!

Me, I'd go straight for the fine bodyshop stuff as I happen to have a bottle downstairs, then the renovator, polish and gloss (my A2 has three coats of the gloss on at the moment). Use a slightly coarser or better still a microfiber cloth to apply the renovator polishes and a *really* soft cloth to final-polish. If you don't have the stuff lying around, use the renovator then the polish and see what happens.

but you'll want to do the whole car afterwards ;)

This is looking like my favourite solution. All advice gratefully received - cheers.

tip 4 u, if its on the plastic part then yes pro's are only people to help as i have done this, if its on the metal then yes i would use a scratch remover. the reason is on plastic it doesnt help and somtimes get worse by using soultions if u dont know what your doing there no easy to diy job. defo try the scratch remover first loads cheaper than 100 quid. if u mess it up then get the pro's in.

If you can catch your nail in it, then theres not alot you can do about it. If you can't feel it, then try something like megs scratch X. Avoid anything more abrasive (like T-cut).

Just did a quick google search and came up with this, http://www.clean-image.co.uk/stonechips.htm, there are plenty of similar companies all over the country, they mix the paint on site to get as good a match as possible. Some colours will be more difficult to match than others, my friend's mercedes was smoke silver (silvery/goldy/yellowy/grey) and there was 4 different versions of the same colour, but the repair chap did a really good job. Good luck.
