Seatbelt adjustment!

Ok so after 7 years of A2 ownership, it was only last week while dismantling a breaker that i realised that the seatbelt top pivot could be adjusted for hight.
Please tell me I am not the only person never to have spotted this feature?

Hi,

It is like many things on a lot of cars, why would you look at it if you were unaware of it?

So don't beat yourself up over it, if nobody told you about it then you would not have noticed it.

Just like the seat belt holders for the rear on the window surrounds, the manual boot release cable that is hidden in the rear screen surround, or the infamous centre sun-visor.

All almost invisible until they are pointed out to you

The centre-sun visor is not universal and is not (normally maybe) installed on the 1.2tdi.
The other surprise is the full size warning triangle hidden by the hole under the first aid kit.
The rear seat belt holders never cease to confuse passengers when they get in!

I think they are specifically designed to keep the belts out of the way when you fold and unfold the rear seats, they are not meant to be used other than this.

I thought they were to be used when storing the belt for any reason as the belts mark the pale plastic on top of the seats when they are not in use if they are left rubbing.
The top of my rear seats were a horrible grey/mucky colour from the belts resting on them. It also cuts out an extra source of noise from the rear seats.
I have not seen anything to suggest that they should only be used when the seats are folded or unfolded... Why should they not be used for storing the belts anytime you are not expecting to use them?

Because of the reason you stated/ They are not that easy to figure out for occasional rear passengers if stored in those slots and not that easy to get out when stretching behind you.

If the belts are working correctly they should be flush with the seat and so they shouldn't move around at all, there is spring pressure from the return mechanism, so they shouldn't rub or make a noise. (at least none of mine have.

So if they were designed for normal use then it is a very bad design, difficult to reach (assuming that your rear seat passengers even know that they are held there).
Whereas unfolding the seats is quite tricky to do without trapping the belts in the catch, but by using these the belts are held out of the way while the seats are down and especially so when you are unfolding the seats again.

So either a clever design to hold the seta belts in place and out of the way when the seats are not being used, or a silly way of storing the belts and making them difficult to use in normal use?

I know which I think makes sense.
