Service Indicator Clearing

Hi there, I've just purchased the HEX+CAN USB interface cable from Ebay for £14, but was wondering how to use it correctly.

I needed it to scan for an engine management light fault, which turned out to be the ABS :)

As it is due for a service, and do not want to be ripped off at Audi, I'd like to do it myself and clear the service indicator on the dash. Could anyone lead me in the right direction?

Also as Im new to this, could someone explain to me what the other functions are, ie OBD-II etc....

Regards

The e.bay leads are normally a copy of the RossTech ones and use their old 409... level software. If so, these instructions should help - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audi_sri.html

OBD stands for 'on board diagnostics' Most scanners will read the generic codes related to engine operation / emissions but don't always pick up faults which are unique to a specific car manufacturer. In some European countries fault codes are checked during the MOT style test so a std diagnostic tool could pick up a faulty lambda sensor for example on anything from an Audi to a Merc

You can also reset to fixed service intervals using the dash buttons. More info in this post - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=101268&postcount=2
