I have just had a full service at KwikFit, on my 1.4Tdi se - which is approaching 68,000 miles. The following issues were pointed out to me...

1,Off Side Rear Front Coil Spring ( is broken )

2,Near Side Rear Shock Absorber ( leaking )

Also a Small leak is close to gear box

Has anyone else had experience of any of these promblems who could advise me how much I should expect to pay to get these issues rectified.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Sio,

You don't say how old your A2 is but broken springs and failing dampers are not problems that are unique to A2s these days. I believe that speed humps and the general state of disrepair of the roads have a lot to answer for.

Low profile tyres also do not help, which is why many of us are going for a tyre with more sidewall, when the time comes for replacement

Thanks John. Its a 2001 model Yreg. Would you happen to know if these are expensive to put right?
Thanks Again

Hi Sio,

Two rear shock absorbers and a front spring, I guess would take about 3 hours labour, plus cost of parts. Not a job for a main dealer with their hourly rates, so try and find a local VW or Audi specialist independent garage with lower hourly rates. This sort of job is bread and butter to any garage. Time to ring around or ask friends and family for a recommendation where they get their cars serviced. I'm guessing about £300, but it depends on labour.

Fitting like for like parts will be the cheapest, unless you want to think about lowering your suspension or fitting more expensive Koni FSD shock absorbers.

John.
