Service Offered: A2 OSS Sunroof Repair

Hi all,

I finished the first sunroof tonight for Mr Birchall, so thought it'd be good to write an official advert for the service in which interest can be listed. So, here are the options:

1: Repair Only
This service fixes any roof to work as it did from factory, through the use of custom parts, designed with reference from the genuine Audi parts which were recently discontinued, as well as a CNC machined, billet aluminium motor mount, which replaces Audi's poor motor mount design. The price including this and fitting into your car is £550.

2: OSS Service
As given away by the title, a simple service to keep the working roofs working. Includes panel re alignment if needed, re grease, blind cleaning and a check for any breaking pieces in the roof. afterwards I will notify you on whether all parts are factory original or if it has had parts replaced over it's lifetime. The roof does not have to come out for this and it can be done in a matter of around 2 hours. The price of one service is £80.

The repairs use a custom manufactured copy of the genuine Audi parts used to fix sunroofs, with tooth extensions to allow for extra grip of the moving parts. The depronman parts I use are not designed from, nor copied from genuine Audi parts, but I have used them, and they are far better than Audi's solution.

1: Repair Only
By this, I mean that the roof will work as from factory, however, no new parts are included with the exception of the repair plates needed, these are £58 each and are included in the price of this service. If all goes to plan, this is one weekends work. The price for one repair only is £358 (if more parts are needed, you will be notified).

2: Full Refurbishment
This service is different to the repair as all runners and moving parts will be replaced, the total cost of the parts is around £450 and this is included in the price. The cost of this service, is £700.

As people show their interest, I will list their names below:
1. A2 Steve
2.

Please note, this does not include fitting, although I may consider this at an extra price as it is not the best of jobs.

Thanks,

Adam.
Count me in for a repair please. I can drop off a loose roof whenever it suits you.
Thanks,

Mike

Hi Kleynie, thanks for offering this service :)

definitely interested, although unsure which my roof would need. As mentioned previously I would need a few months to gather the funds (especially if it's the full refurbishment) I'm sure I could sort out leaving the car with you when it comes to it if that makes things easier.

Hi,
The problem is a common problem with all OSS systems which is why the plates are sold the way they are, a repair would do it but if you're interested in a refurb, let me know, for now, I'll add you to the list.
Thanks

Just to be clear gents, we can fix your own roofs and offer a loan roof in the meantime, or leave your car with us for a few days and we can repair, but we would need to add a fitting fee as it’s a complete ball ache! So the cheapest way is to just do an exchange roof and fit yourselves. The repaired roofs will come with new gaskets so can be fitted straight on the car.

Ian & Adam

Hi guys

Congratulations

Glad it's up and running.

So is there the option to

drive up with Sam's broken roof,
slot in one of your repaired roofs
Pay
Leave you the broken roof
Drive away?

What would the price be for fitting? I think I'd be wanting that whichever option I picked.

Yeah no problem, for the repair or the refurb?

Hi Adam, my sons car has the same issue as ‘oneflewover’ works fine other than not opening all the way. He’s happy with the roof as it is, as it works, but are you saying to do the plates the roof would have to come out? Only ask as he’s still at school, not fussed with the roof as it is as he’s learning, but if there’s a cheaper fix, worth considering....or wait till it fails entirely. Thoughts please.....thanks Adam. Kindest regards, mark

Hi,
I had this problem with my roof before we fixed it, what it means is that the cables have broken away from the runners bit they still pick up, causing slack in the cables. A standard repair would fix this but I'm afraid the roof does need to come out in order to put the new plates in. However, it is worth doing as the fact that there is slack means that there is only a matter of time until it completely breaks, so it's easier for you and for me if we save it before it goes completely and causes more damage to the roof.

Understood Adam, thank you. He'd better start saving.....be in touch as of when. Cheers, Mark.

This PDF (in German) showing one of the few fixes which can be done 'in situ' may be of interest
https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?attachments/reparatur-seilzug-a2-open-sky-repair-pdf.3372/

Cheers Spike

This can be done in situ on your own car, however, if working on other peoples cars this is not the way forward. When drilling and tapping the thread for the new plate it is impossible to stop swarf entering the rails, this could cause more problems. Best to strip the roof down, do the drilling in a vice and clean/lubricate everything whilst reassembling. Lets face it, even the youngest of these roofs are 14 years old and will require more attention than simply fitting the repair plates, I certainly would hate to think we'd fit the plates and the roof fails one week later.
Like I say, its fine on your own roof, if it fails you have yourself to blame, but Adam and I would not do this due to the risks involved.

Ian

I recently had my roof serviced by Klynie (Ian and Adam) and it was a bargain at that price, just for the peace of mind alone.

The roof has now been looked at by someone who knows what they are doing and that it was greased and the rubbers lubricated correctly.

So if your roof doesn't work, see Klynie and it can be sorted. If your roof DOES work, see Klynie and it will stand a much better chance of remaining working as it should!

Thank you !!!!

Hiya,

As you know I’m up for this. My car is back now; when would be suitable for you? I can leave it without you for however long is necessary.

Cheers,
Hedge
