Service Offered: Colour DIS

Taking Things Further

Additionally, I am now able to upgrade DIS instrument clusters by adding the ColorMFA product. ColorMFA replaces the standard monochrome screen with a full colour screen. Whilst still controlled using the standard buttons on the end of the wiper stalk, the colour screen is able to offer many more functions and display a much greater range of information.

Unfortunately, current time limitation means I cannot write as comprehensive an article as I usually like to, but rest assured, it will come! In the meantime, here is a photograph of a converted DIS cluster running on my workbench.

As you can see in the close-up photo below, the screen is in full colour and shows many measurements simultaneously, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Using the buttons on the end of the wiper stalk, it's possible to browse through a huge range of information. Real-time information whilst driving is also much more comprehensive. As photographed below, the screen is showing instantaneous fuel consumption as its primary measurement but is also showing exterior temperature, engine temperature, turbo boost pressure and battery voltage.

As a nice touch, the screen is also able to display a custom logo when the ignition is first switched on. Below is a photo of the cluster during start-up, displaying the familiar Audi rings!

I hope that this post whets the appetite. I promise to expand upon this post in the near future when time permits.

Upgrade Paths

For those who already have DIS fitted in their A2, this product will be available as a straight upgrade.
For those who do not have DIS fitted in their A2 and are therefore running on a basic instrument cluster, this product will be available as a simultaneous DIS retrofit and upgrade rolled into one.

Hi Tom,

I'm after some info on your colour DIS as my current DIS is missing some pixels and would much prefer to spend the money upgrading to one of your colour screens rather than repairing the original one. I recently got one of Paul's (Depronman) remaps done so when I get my original ECU back I'll have the SKC to code a new instrument cluster.

Hi Iain,

Indeed, if you have a failing screen, then upgrading to Colour DIS is a good option. What is it that you'd like to know about? I keep meaning to write a full overview of its features such that A2 owners can see exactly what you get as part of the upgrade, but, alas, time hasn't been on my side.

Great to hear that you've had Paul remap your ECU, and that you've got your SKC - that could prove handy in the future. However, peculiar as this may seem, it's not needed for the Colour DIS upgrade. If you choose to go ahead with the upgrade, we'll arrange a meeting and I'll do all the necessary software work (employing my loyal friend 'Gizmo the Magic Box'). Given that you have a TDI, there's also a small extra wiring loom that's needed in order to carry the turbo boost pressure data.

I know the saying if you need to ask how much, you can't afford it :p but I was just wondering what a rough idea of the cost involved in getting it done compared to getting the original one repaired?
