Servicing - Cost of Parts A2 1.4 TDI 75 Sport

Hi,

My neighbour is a retired mechanic, but still has all of his tools. He has offered to show me how to change the oil. I took him up on the offer today. We had a look around the car and he's come up with a list of items that require attention.

I was hoping you guys could give me a rough idea how much I can expect to pay for the parts - and what the labour cost might be.

Forgive me if I get some of the parts wrong - I'm new to the nitty gritty of a car.

So the following requires attention:

Rear Drum Brakes - new shoes and cylinders required.

Front Brakes - New pads required, he will polish the discs to remove corrosion.

Oil Change with air and oil filter replacement.

Pollen filter replacement

Timing belt (and associated parts) replacement - car currently has almost 94500 miles and what appears to be the original belt albeit without cracks.

Alternator belt.

As stated before a rough estimate for parts and labour would suffice, if you would like to put a price on the individual items, I won't complain. ;-)

Many thanks for your help.

Chris

If you tot up the price from stoke and factor carriage costs, compare this with your local Audi dealer parts counter.

Mintex pads and shoes from eBay are good quality and value.

Ensure you use the right spec oil. Plenty chat about it on here if you do a search. If memory serves its 5w30 and 507.00

Thanks guys, hadn't thought of that.

I get £355 without shipping. How do I get the A2OC discount?

Just need to see how much the parts would cost me at the Audi Parts counter.

Cheers, Chris

That sounds a lot for service parts and a cambelt kit. Does this include the oil and the brake parts required? Send a private message (PM) to Stoke Audi with a list of your needs and I'm sure Dave will get back to you with an inclusive 'best deal' cost.

Did you do an eBay search for A2 Mintex? They are much cheaper than dealer costs and having had 2 full sets of brake pads and discs from a reputable eBay seller in Manchester, I would recommend these.

Example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A2-1...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3c92278b93

You will also get deals on 5l of the oil you need. Halfords occasionally comes up trumps with this, and some members use Opie oils who are another forum partner.

Example: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-713-castrol-edge-5w-30-fst-fully-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx

or

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...neoils/5w30-engine-oil/?521771021&0&1&cc5_247 (Opie has a qualified price beater policy)

Whilst I wouldn't serve to detract from the service Stoke provides to the forum, competition is a healthy thing. My local Audi dealer gives me discount no problem and matches or betters the prices quoted on Stoke's website before carriage costs. Therefore I have seldom used them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris

I found that TPS (trade part Specialists) have been the cheapest for genuine part. They do advertise as trade only, But if you call them get a price they let you pay at the counter. You may not get the same discount without a trade card but are much cheaper than Audi. They do Drive belts and water pumps and Quantum oil which is what Audi use too.

Cheers

Thanks everyone, the more sources the better!

My neighbour has a source that sells genuine Audi parts in plain packaging (?). I'll see what price he comes back with, then I'll call round a few places. I just wanted an idea what to expect...
I'll let you all know what he comes back with.

Cheers,

Chris
