Sorry if this has been raised, but does anyone get a ratttle from behind the central air vents in the dash. I'm pretty sure it's intermittent (or I have the stereo on too loud) but it sounds like a fan motor at very slow speed and a light 'clunking' sound.

The best comparison is like an old cheap and nasty cassette player.

Odd, and still happens with climate off.

I only seem to notice it a slow speeds. [30]

I had that sort of thing on my A2. Dealer tied down/re-routed some cables that run behind the vents/top of dash and it was fixed. Could be the same problem.

Neil,

I believe it may be servomotors driving the HVAC unit Airmix and Mode doors. The AUDI A/C program will drive them even when you have turned the system off; the reason for this is to ensure the doors are fully closed. From my fading memory, I believe they pulse every 7 minutes or so, to ensure no drop in system performance.

However saying this, you should complain as they variation in noise is high between the motors, and some are a lot worse than others (I have many memories of sitting in a sound proof booth listening to these types of motors). I know for a fact, that this is one of AUDI QA's biggest complaints across the range, since as road noise is reduced by insulation, any interior noises appear much worse.
