the wife and i drove up to aberdeen from london to visit the grandparents... we took the A2 to the carwash to clean all the road grime off and things went pear-shaped....

the carwash lifted the back of the A2 off the ground for about a minute and then dropped it back down, smashed the rear window out, shot glass and water all the way to the front of the car, dragged glass bits across the roof of the car and scratched it!!!

the station attendant said she could only give us the address of the station to send the insurance claim to...

anyone ever heard of this kind of thing happening to A2's?

any tips for dealing with shell?

thanks!

Hi Gerard,
That is a very unfortunate incident, and I'm sorry to hear about it.
It must been a hell of a shock!

About a year ago, I went to a conventional car wash and also found the roller got caught under the rear spoiler and that the rear suspension started to lift, so I started my engine and moved the car forward a few inches. I'm not sure if this is what saved me, but the rear didn't smash despite the amount of pressure that must have been on it. Anyway, after that I vowed that I would never use another automatic car wash again (in the A2 that is!).

This has been discussed in the past and to my knowledge has happened to one other A2 Forum user, have a look at: http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/europe5.htm
I'll see if I can fix the image that isn't appearing later today.

Yoyoman (Jeff) may be able to offer some advice...

Presumably, your A2 isn't considered to be a write-off, is it?

What kind of advice can you give we just do not wash our car in the car wash anymore.
Ours was fixed within a week and I was lucky to receive all the money from the insurance of the car wash even though they had a sign saying they were not responsible I just held them responsible and claimed the money from the repair with my insurance company s lawyer from them.
I got it they probaly never knew that this is a kind of car who is not to be washed in a carwash.
Good luck

Jeff

Its just my opinion, but I would NEVER use an auto car wash on any car that I valued the paintwork on! Those things are notorious for 'micro-scratching' the laquer and dulling the paintwork.

Besides which, I quite like running a sloppy sponge over my A2. All those curves, its a lovely car to wash... ;))

phil-you worry me...

gerard-sorrows to you. what a rear-end (excuse the pun). Has the garage made any noise about what they will do?

Jeff has included a link to little script running on a server somewhere. It reads your internet browser's data and generates a picture from that.
Top to bottom:
"You are <your ip address> and your internet provider is <provider domain name suffix>.
Your PC is running <operating system name> and the browser you're using is <browser type>.
Ain't it nice that we know everything about you?"

Don't worry. Your browser harmlessly sends this info everytime it requests anything from any webserver. It ends up in the server log files most of the time, which can be nice to build some statistics about the number of visitors, their browsers and their locations.

If you want to browse the internet in a more anonymous way, you need to use a 'proxy server'. A proxy acts on your behalf, so it will be the proxy's details that show up in the mouse's sign, not yours...
