Shell V Power Diesel

Hello.

I was feeling a bit flush the other week so thought I'd try the V Power diesel pump.

At 5p more per litre it added just under £2 to my normal fill up but I was curious and so set the trip meter to zero (as I typically do) so I could calculate my economy on the next fill up.

Now it may be a fluke, but my low fuel light which always come on at 375 miles came on at 402, and I calculated an improvement in economy of 8%, 55mpg as opposed to the normal 51mpg for that tankfull.

I have filled up with V Power again and will report on my findings.

Yours in nerdiness,

Eeeboy.

PS: Forget internet porn - if my wife ever discovered I was posting such inane posts on the internet she'd divorce me for being a complete anorak.........sufficient grounds I believe.

74 mpg on Tesco Diesel!!!

Hi There

Thought might throw my observations into this. I did try BP Ultimate in the early days but quickly found little difference.

My commute is Gatwick to Heathrow so all Motorway and if I contain myself around the 2500rpm area (OK thats only between 60-70mph!!) I regularly get a return of 74mpg on Tesco Diesel. I even had to check my litre conversion figures and as eggs is eggs thats the correct figure so I am well happy with my monthly fuel bill :)

Only downside is with a 28 Litre Tank I can still only get 4 round trips to work!

I'm on my second tank of this juice and have gained 40 extra miles per tank. Is this normal? I'm slighty pleased. :D

Shell V Power

I use Shell V Power (petrol) since having my A2. I once used regular Unleaded, but found that it didn't last as long, so have never tried it since. I also feel my A2 seems quicker with V power!

V power for me, big improvement in running on my 146k A4, economy up by about 10% I'd say, I'd imagine A2 owners would get the same, I always used the Optimax brew in my pre a2 honda with similar effects, good stuff, (bet McLaren wished they had that secret ha ha ha)

eeboy,

Don't know how you're working out your fuel consumption but if my maths is correct, 375 miles before the fuel warning lamp comes on equates to over 65 mpg!
The tank capacity is only 34 litres (7.48 gallons) and when the fuel warning lamp comes on you still have around 5 litres left (according to the handbook).
My fuel light tends to come on when the car has used around 5.6 to 5.9 gallons.
Depending on how accurate your low fuel warning lamp is, your car is doing at least 60 mpg, probably a whole lot more!

Hi Dickhilt.

Not all A2's have 34 litre tanks........mine has the 42 litre tank.

I reset the trip meter when I fill-up, then record the mileage when I next fill up and note how much fuel goes in, then using this work out the average mpg. This is the most accurate method I find.

Last 38 litres of fuel used returned an average mpg of 54.2.

Cheers.

Hi eeeboy,

Well I admit that I didn't know that there were two different tank sizes on the tdi 75! The extra capacity would be a bonus on my car.

Obviously I work out my mpg the same way as you but you will have used more fuel when the fuel light comes on due to the bigger tank.

You've made me think about trying the better fuel though. I tend to use standard BP etc and have averaged 65 mpg over the last 13000 miles with a best of over 76. It will be interesting to see what difference the more expensive fuel makes and whether it's worth the extra cost.

Have tried both BP Ultimate and Shell V Power.

No difference in either economy or performance with Ultimate. Dissapointing.

Same economy (around 65mpg brim to brim calculations) but smoother, quieter and quicker with V Power.

Have been using Shell for the last five tankfuls.

Have added Millers Diesel Sport 4 additive to the last tankful and noticed the car's even quicker, smoother and quieter. Don't know about the economy yet, though. I presume the immediate improvement is due to the fact that the Shell had already cleaned the injectors, etc, and the Millers is acting purely as an octane-booster.
